Wed Dec 21 2011 - Light
Light

It’s the darkest day of the year.

But don’t worry.

I’ve started lighting Hanukah candles, so all is well.

(So can we file this in the ‘delusions of grandeur’ folder?)

Go ahead if it makes you feel better, but I’m still lighting candles tonight. Two of them to be exact.

(Wait a minute, there were two last night.)

No, you don’t count the shamash candle.

(Why not?)

Don’t you have something to do involving syntax and pentameter elsewhere in the house?

(Nope. All caught up.)

Great.

Well, it may be a long night tonight,

it may be dark and cold,

but....

Even in the middle of winter, there are entities that have hope for the future...

You could always fly down to NZ, it's the longest day down there! LOL

Happy Chanukah.

I couldn't find any Chanukah candles in the two-foot kosher foods section at my local Safeway, so I used tea lights with the shumash candle set into an aluminum energy drink lid. We had our traditional Chanukah dinner of latkes, tuna patties and donuts for dessert. Safeway didn't have a single jelly donut, so I got an assortment that was almost half maple bars which are now gone, btw. They would have been all maple bars, but they only had five. There are still a few chocolate with sprinkles and one or two apple fritters. I think tonight's dinner will be some roasted cauliflower, steamed carrots and a salad with croutons and a little 1000 island dressing. Gotta pay for that festival of (fried foods and) light somehow.

What exactly are you doing with a blooming poppy in December? Not that I'm not impressed or anything ... jealous more like it.

May the candles warm the darkest nights.
