Four Legged Challenge
Tue Aug 17 2010

We have a new foster dog.

She came on Sunday.

She has issues.

Though you would never know to look at her.

Why IS that?

[album 65561 Sadie First Day.jpg]

She came from a home with too much activity of the toddler kind. We got to see this first hand because the whole family came when they dropped her off to us. Sadie has had it with little girls. She doesn't like to be touched pretty much anywhere past her front legs and she lets you know in a toothy and snarly way. We are hoping against hope that we can calm her down.

Actually there IS hope, because yesterday she brought me her ball to throw. We played fetch for a little while, but brushing out her dense undercoat? Well, that was another thing altogether. We are working on solutions. I really am going to look deep into my bag of tricks for this one. Because biting is on the top of the list of things that make our dogs unadoptable.

Where's the Dog Whisperer when I need him?

Oh yeah. Sadie thinks cats are a food group.

Oh joy.

(WHY do you do this? Are you crazy?)

Pretty much.

Pout face....
Why doesn't Sadie like me?
I'm a nice little girl.
I won't chase her around the house.
I promise.

Here Sadie,
come here Sadie.
Let's play.
Here Sadie.
Here Sadie.
Here SADIE!
HERE SADIE!!

Oh dear.

I have a headache.

(Pass me the aspirin. I'll join you.)

If anyone can do it, you can.
    You've worked miracles before.

Look, Sadie. She Who Must Not Be Named is your ONLY hope. Listen well, my furry friend.
    Good luck, SWMNBN.

This is about your comment on Welshie's DD: So did the developer/previous owner cover the replacement of your stove? I doubt your homeowner's would do it, since you weren't yet the owner. I hope you didn't get stuck with it.

RYC: About the square footage. I didn't take a tape to it but my eyeball says between 3500 to 4000 sq ft. It's framed in and insulated and that's about it. The owner was going to split it into two apartments so some reconfiguring will have to be done to make it single family but probably not too much. The yard needs work. first order of business is to fence it off like any other construction site to keep vandals out though that isn't as much of a concern now that the price of copper has fallen off and there's no point in stealing the wiring and the plumbing. It wasn't just happening in that area, either. It was happening all over town due to the massive mortgage foreclosures and houses sitting empty on the real estate market.

Bonus points: there's a BOAT in the garage that goes with the property *rolls eyes*.

What happened with the stove issue in your house? Did you have to replace it yourselves or did insurance kick in?

RYC: yes, that's A LOT of square footage but there is, literally, a waiting list of people wanting homes in that area. They're signing up and waiting years to get one.

The real problem is that people aren't taking the initiative and buying the homes and renovating themselves. They want someone else to do the work and have the headache. They want to come in on the end and reap the rewards of someone elses work. I can deal with that because I believe this is a property worth saving.

It sounds like an environmentally bassed anxiety problem, which is custom made for anxiolytic drugs on a temporary basis. They take the edge off, and help you make the first steps. As the behavior improves, you can gradually wean off. I'd seriously talk about it with your vet.

Maybe a little calming medication and then, you can brush and try it that way.

I can't read Welsh's diary because I was not put in as a friend. Can someone recommend me as her friend please? TY.
