....the girly way.
After much, um.... deliberation...
(You mean procrastination don't you Cupcake? Wasn't that the word you were looking for?)
Well I haven't seen YOU out there sweating with the lawn mower, hand saw, and trail pick Mr. Parenthipants.
As I was saying, after much deliberation and hard labor, I have finally gotten a start on my ... this is always the hard part for me... naming things. I MUST name them, but I'm not very good at it. For now we will call it my... little retreat.
It's in a small meadow that is across the ice pond from the chicken yard.
The other day I drug, and I do mean drug the lawn mower over hill and dale and through generally unfriendly territory to mow down the tall grass around the place. It has grown much taller than usual because of all our spring rains. Then I realized that the deer trail down into the pond and up on the other side was way too steep and treacherous to be using on a daily basis. So I asked Mr. P to give me some trail building tips. He has made many trails, and knows what to do. He went over and cut out a less steep path on the slope which gave me a template.
I proceeded to construct a makeshift set of stairs with whatever came to hand.
(WHAT is with that board with the rock on it? That's ridiculous.)
It was in the bottom of the pond. It was a flat surface. I used it. What's yer problem?
(You are so weird.)
Maybe someday I'll saw off that bit. We'll see.
I mowed myself a path at the top of the stairs:
And some open space...
I can't burn that pile right now. It's not a burn day, and it may have to stay there all summer. But we'll have a nice fire in the fall.
Here's the shelter I made...
I bought an all fabric shower curtain with moose, eagle, fish and canoe motifs on it at the second hand store. I thought it fit right in.
This is what it looks like up close...
That metal bucket is covering the stump of some buck brush that I cut down. With great effort and much grumbling by the way. Buck brush is rather nasty stuff. Tough, gnarly, and unfriendly bushes they are. Ugh.
Here's the view while sitting in the shade of my moose and canoe shower curtain.
(Oh my gawd. It looks hot and dry.)
Well, it is a little. I don't think 3 in the afternoon is going to be my optimal time to be over there.
If you walk off into the bushes there toward the left and down the gully a ways, there's an old pile of broken bricks that I plan to retrieve and build myself some kind of fire pit. That's next on the list.
(Does CalFire know about your little plans Dillweed? Don't you know fire season is upon us?)
I'm not going to build an ACTUAL fire right now. I said fire PIT. Pay attention.
Anyway. I needed a less steep path back UP out of the ice pond and Mr. P pointed out a likely spot that I hadn't considered. So this morning I went over there and made it happen.
It's pretty nice with steps cut in.
(You will never get a job on a trail crew with technique like that.)
Well lucky for me, I'm not looking for work so it shouldn't be a problem.
Though YOU might be.
Real soon.
Might want to brush up your resume'.
In the meantime, I'm mulling over the whole naming thing.
Knowing me, this could take a while.
