Incredible Shrinking Dragons
Wed Apr 30 2003

Well, I put on me best bib and tucker and showed up at the employment agency a little early, just to show them I know how to keep an appointment.

They were a cheerful bunch and very helpful. I filled out more paperwork and watched a work safety video and signed a form saying I HAD watched the video. Then had a really nice interview with one of the young women there.

It went so well, and I was very surprised how comfortable I felt. Years ago I would have been a bundle of nerves and left the place completely drained. But I must have gotten over the really painful shyness part of my life, because I actually enjoyed it !

She wants me to meet her supervisor who won’t be in until Friday, so back I will go then to do that and to take some aptitude tests and a typing test. They told me I could bring my own keyboard in as I have been using a split keyboard for over 6 years or so, and a regular one has become almost unusable for me. She said just unplug it and haul it on over, that it happens all the time.

So I am feeling very positive about the whole thing. They have all kinds of part time and temporary work that I can ease into the whole working world with. One thing for sure, I don’t think it will be boring!

We shall see if any jobs actually materialize.

I will make this observation about this experience though.

Dragons look bigger from farther away than they do up close.

Some dragons are even friendly once you get to know them.

I agree with Pragmatist concerning dragons. :-) And I am not at all surprised how comfortable you were and how well you did at the interview today. Congratulations!

See, I knew you'd be fine. Sounds like you'd get along fine with them all. ;-)

Yes.....shyness...me too...to the point of ALMOST being a handicap...When I was after that job of prison guard ( corrections officer) ..many times it nagged at my mind, " I CAN'T DO IT...I CAN"T SIT IN A TOWER AND WATCH A PERIMETER....OR OPERATE CELL DOORS IN A CONTROL ROOM?'.....but I thought of that little saying...."How do you eat an elephant.....one bite at a time.."I got the position and I ate that elephant..bite by bite.....I will be praying for courage and strength for you.....YOU CAN DO IT...YOU CAN DO IT :)
