Unemployed Fugitive

Okay, once more into the fray.

I drove over to the bookstore to get an application for work this morning. The two scruffy looking college boys who I had to consult for said paperwork made me feel somewhat hopeful that I had a chance. At least I was dressed like an adult. I guess they don’t have much of a dress code there. I am not exactly a fashion plate myself, but these guys looked like they were dressed to go to the gym or something.

After I got the application, I browsed around in the music section and listened to a few things on the headphones. I heard some new age stuff that was incredibly boring, listened to “Fragile” by Sting and tried really hard to find a song on the new Celine Dion CD that I liked. But unfortunately, none of them were that inspiring. Maybe it was just my mood. Besides that, these people want from 16 to 19 dollars for a CD!
That’s A LOT of money!

I mosied over to the children’s department to see if they had a copy of “The Neverending Story” by Michael Ende, but no such luck. Then I looked over the young adult books. Boy there are some very interesting looking titles there. Lots of fantasy and SF books and I saw some awesome artwork on a few of those books. If money were no object, I would have come home with an armload. Just glancing through the titles and reading a few paragraphs here and there makes me want to write. Stories are not my strong suit though. I think I am beginning to understand why people DO write them though. Creating your own world, let’s face it, it is god-like, or maybe just simple escapist behavior. That works too !

Anyway, I finally pulled myself away after checking out the blank journal section (it’s my bookstore ritual), and headed home.

Well, on that trip home I really goofed, and may have to pay for it. I came up to a very busy intersection to make a left turn. There were several cars ahead of me and one step off the edge of the street nearest the light was a scary looking man with a cardboard sign, panhandling. Well, dumb me, when the light turned green, I just followed the cars ahead of me and sort of kept my eye on this guy. I was not paying attention to the light. As I was in the middle of my turn, someone honked their horn at me and I looked up to see that the light was now red. Oy !

At that intersection there is a camera that takes pictures of traffic violations. I sure HOPE I did not get photographed! Because I will for SURE get a ticket! If so, it will be my first moving violation ever in my whole driving career. I feel like such a dope. Next time I will just run over the panhandlers and keep my eye firmly fixed on the lights.

So much for my trip to the bookstore.

All I want is a little part time job. Why is this so complicated?

Geeze, and now I may even be a criminal.

Oh my !!! Hope you do not get a ticket. My niece did in Southern California - caught driving before she had her license! Ouch . . .

Every time you talk about working in a bookstore I get the itch myself. I think it would be a lovely place to work. I look at the blank journals too, and sometimes sit down for a cup of wonderfully aromatic coffee.

I don't get to listen to new music very often, as we have poor reception in these hills. However, I heard the song 'Clocks' by Cold Play and I really love it. Have you heard it?

Glad you had a chance to hang out in a bookstore today. Too much fun! *smile*

You *started* the turn on a green. Just because there were a bunch of pokeys in front of you, and you couldn't complete the turn on the green, doesn't make you a criminal. How were you to know that the light was going to turn in the middle of your turn????

IF you get a ticket, go to court and fight it. But you probably won't. I got caught at Fair Oaks and Watt half-way thru the intersection when the light turned red. Never heard a word, nor a ticket. The camera even flashed in my eyes, I was that close to ending the turn.

Never fear if something does come of it I am prepared to protest on your behalf no one can withstand more than 3 verses of the 'I know a song that'll get on your nerves' song. Failing that you can smuggle yourself out in a homemade prison wardens uniform- just need teabags and a pillow case - it worked for David Niven!

Fingers crossed for you on the bookstore.

Oh no, I hope you get the job, `cause if there was a camera you probably got snapped. I don't know what your fines are like, but they're sky high here. Have a good day, if you can. ;-)

Is this like the most exciting thing that has happened in a while while you have behind the wheel of your car?! I will protest on your behave as well, my friend!I know the feeling -- while vacationing on the coast we were in Santa Cruz and a war protest was going on. Not bad until a part of the group decided to step into a lane of the road (our lane of course) and hold up traffic. If I dare say, if I was the first car in our lane, I might have tried knudging them out of the lane. Well, truthfully, running them over would have been my first choice.Talk about criminal actions! But guess what? I would have received way more applaus then they were generating at the time! Hmmmmmm, justice........
