Photo Field Trip

Even though it is mostly cloudy out today, the temperatures are in the 50's.
I decided I had had enough of the indoors, and filled my pockets with essentials for a walk in the woods.
Before leaving, I spent a few minutes at my kitchen table navigating my way through the many screens of options on my camera, trying to figure things out. Just about the time I thought I had a sequence of button pushes out, I would find that just minutes later, I hadn't a clue as to how I had gotten there. And shocking as it seems, except for a very rudimentary book with a few pages, it did not come with a user's manual!
Anyway, I took a few pictures while I was at the table. I'm quite happy with them considering I pretty much didn't know what I was doing....
I really love this apple!
I also love the blurred backgrounds. It makes for a dramatic photo. My other camera didn't always do this so well.
So, after fooling around with settings, I packed up and Sunny and I took off up the hill.
I wanted to go see the spot where I took the pictures of the Tiger Lilies a few years ago.
Here's the bridge over the creek...
It's looking more and more precarious. I generally stay off of it.
Sunny was happy to get out of the house too.
Across the creek there was a fairly large stone that hasn't heard the parable about stones and rolling.
Looks like it's been gathering moss for a LONG time in that spot!
S. could probably tell you the real name of this moss. I call it Old Man's Beard.
On the walk home I spied an unusual plant growing on one of the trees. I'm not at all sure what this stuff is, but I liked it!
There's what I REALLY like to do with my camera...
And this is just with the lens that comes with the camera. Evidently you can buy a macro lens for it too. But I think I'll explore all the possibilities of the lens I have before I jump into THAT.
I think I can amuse myself for some time with the equipment I have on hand.

Great photos! I'm guessing that very unusual growth on the tree is some sort of lichen, but one I sure haven't seen before. Very interesting - and photogenic.
I've learned that cameras now either come with a CD with a manual on it, or you need to go to the manufacturer's website and download the manual. I guess they are saving trees by no longer printing thick manuals. I'm ok with that. But I do like to hold a real book and highlight it and put sticky notes on important pages. I'm a real luddite when it comes to books. Anyway, enjoy and keep on snappin'!

I love the photo's you have taken with your new camera-they are really good. I wore the scarf today with my outfit--I really love it and you do such nice work. Thank you again for it.
