Adventures In Grass
Thu Apr 30 2009

So the dogs were all antsy and bored so I relented and took them for a walk.

It's been a long time since they went to the fields. I've been worried about ticks.
But they needed a good run.

The grass was tall. Ben had to hop up in the air to see where he was going. That was pretty cute to watch. Sierra just plodded along right behind me. Sunny had no problems. Not much slows her down.

After a while Sierra got lost. I had to go back and lead her out of the jungle. The rains and the cool Spring have been good to the growth of the grasses. I kept checking my legs for ticks.

I didn't find any.

Seems that isn't the REAL danger out there right now....

Ummm, this would be the danger:

Poor Ben was beside himself on the walk home trying to do something about this mess. He was not happy about the situation AT ALL.  He kept stopping abruptly to chew on this offending mess on his legs.

I think these are from Filaree plants. Nasty little things. I spent about 45 minutes brushing them out of Ben. They were everywhere. Sometimes I'm not too bright.  I should have known better.

I guess all romps will have to be in the boring kindergarten playground for a long time. I forgot how unforgiving the fields are this time of year. What a waste of wide open spaces....

(Yeah, there's a wide open space between your ears. What were you THINKING?)

I know, I know.

Don't rub it in.

(By the way, I think I see a tick on your shoulder. Oh look, isn't that cute? He's waving!)

Great. Just great.

I tend to forget there's a burr patch in one of Chances favorite spots at the county park so he invariably winds up with them in his beard and eyebrows. Getting them out isn't such an easy task *sigh*.

I'll add "short haired dogs" to my blessings.
    Poor little guy.
    Poor you!

Is there any way to put a gag on ( )? He's terrible disrespectful.

At least Sunny has a short coat. Didn't Sierra collect any passengers?

    Bless

Could you find "clothing" for them to wear during romps that would keep the nasties out of their fur?

Personally I'm lazy, all the long-haired dogs I've ever owned we clipped for the warm-weather months.

It's opretty unbelieveable. Take a look at the photo I just added to my second entry. I posted it since your comment came in. It's pretty darn close to my workplace.
