Rebel Base 2026

Well, here we are looking straight at a new year.

I'm feeling a bit like a rebel about it too.

I feel like taking back my consciousness from the weird place the on-line world has become. I have been reading some interesting articles about resisting the doom scroll vortex. Not by never looking at Instagram [that's been my main time suck this last year], but, going into it with a different mindset and different habits.

One person put it this way: consuming content passively is what is stealing our thoughts. It's like you don't have time to let the ideas sink in. And they get lost. Because honestly, at least on my Instagram feed, there are really meaningful things people put on there. Thought provoking... I mean just look at that phrase, they are supposed to provoke thought, which requires time, which is being stolen by the screen we haven't looked at yet, because our brain is also worried that something even BETTER is on the next screen!

The video I watched recommended to 'engage' with the ideas we might see .... anywhere really. I added to this an idea I learned from a YouTube video about planning. The idea came from a book called, Getting Things Done by Dave Allan. In there he talks about the first step which he calls, 'Capture'. That when we are trying to organize our life, [or our thoughts], the thing we can do is get into the habit of capturing them.

For some reason this just clicked in my brain.

(What's left of it.)

I KNOW !.... but to address your point, I am thinking of my brain like a nice bubbling jar of sourdough starter. You can deplete it pretty severely, but when you give it more food, it will recover. I want to recover from 'brain rot' which is what people are calling it. these days.

And it requires me to STOP scrolling and write the idea down. Think about it. And in my case, this very often leads to taking action. Because that's how I roll.

(Not scroll.)

HA!!!! for once you GET it!

(I won't let it go to my head.)

Good for you.

Anyway... this is just one of many adjustments I want to make in the coming months.

The cool thing about this is that I have a new pen and some new ink that I chose especially to go with it, which will make writing down my captured ideas more enjoyable.

I will say one thing about this pen that is very unusual for me. I mean, almost unheard of....

It's almost black. This smokey dark gray. I hardly EVER choose this color for anything. But this pen just demanded to be in my small collection. It's very mysterious and sultry. I bought a green/black ink to go with it.

It's an Asvine V 126. Not very pricey. Thank goodness.

The perfect tools for capturing ideas and putting them on paper. Or in this instance writing about them here in the digital world.

I want to learn to live in both worlds and be in balance in both.

Be a Master of the scroll. A vanguard against brain rot. A capturer of Ideas, wherever they may be found in the digital or the analog Universe.

(You've been watching too much Star Wars.)

Could be, could be.

I don't have a light saber, but I do have a pen that inspires respect.

(In whom?)

🙄

I've kind of been on a crusade to get people to stop 'watching' and start reading. Watching means you sit there passively while others use facial expressions and other body language, and tone of voice to influence you. When you read, it makes you think about what you've read, it pushes you to more sources to find out more, and you form your own opinions and thoughts without influence or bias. With all the convincing talking heads readily available on video, it's no wonder conspiracy theories and other baseless reports are believed as true.
