Out of a group of 18 new workers, I got assigned to the supervisor of the lab at the hospital. She seems a nice person all in all, but just a wee bit disorganized and needs some help with her office. That's where I come in.
The room is about 12 by 8 feet and is crammed full of binders and boxes and stacks of paper and huge computer monitors and bureaucracy detritis from three years ago. I can hardly wait to be turned loose. Except I think my boss actually wants to KEEP all this stuff! Boy, where is a nice big dumpster when you need one?
I managed to clear off a space around the computer and worked my way out, dusting and scrubbing and emptying out drawers and washing and organizing and doing a little supply inventory sheet, and then she had to go to a meeting and then left early. I was left forlorn sitting in the middle of this pile of government documents with the task of reading a manual for the Exell program on the computer. The manual is 4 inches thick. I kid you not.
Quitting time is 4:30. At 4:20 the lab became a ghost town. I ! turned out the lights! Me, I am staying till at least 4:27. It just looks tacky to waltz out before then. My boss is supposed to be gone tomorrow, so I am supposed to find something to do. There are about 14 people in the department, I will go begging for something to keep me busy. Perhaps someone will show mercy on me and put me to work.
It was an interesting day.
I think I am going to take some cleaning supplies with me in the morning.
Stand back !
