Shear Sticker Shock
Wed Jan 12 2005

P. and I finally made our way to the yarn shop. My pocketbook is considerably lighter. But I think I will be having fun working with this yarn:

[album 65561 yarn2.JPG]

Enough for two felted purses.

After looking at the price tags over there, I am now officially on a mission to find out how to dye my own yarn with something besides kool aid, or find a source of wool that doesn't make me break out in a cold sweat while viewing the price tags.

Raising my own sheep has crossed my mind in the last hour or so, but I imagine that idea will seem less attractive as the day progresses.

Either that or I will be changing my name to Little Bo Peep.

Time will tell.

I wonder if she is getting a kickback from all the yarn we buy?

That is very pretty yarn; I love the color.

I imagine that after you have raised the sheep, sheared the sheep, washed the wool, carded the wool, spun the wool and dyed the wool that the prices might not unsettle you quite so much. However, I agree that yarn prices in general are pretty outrageous. You would think it is spun gold or something. :)

    Pretty selection of colors.

I want to make a bag carry-all in red, black, beige, brown that will go with everything I wear. I'm tired of switching purses all the time. Guess I'll go to WalMart and see what kind of cheap stuff I can find there.

Would be interesting to see a sheep in your back yard munching on all the veggies and flowers.

    Shalom

    Hello Yetzirah:

I enjoy reading your DD very much and I noticed that you like to knit. My mother is a master knitter, spinner, weaver and she makes a lots of things just like you :)

Your yarn's color is very stunning and I'm looking forward to see when you are done with it.

    Have fun! Deb

I think there is better money to be made with alpacas and they are friendlier too. Love the colors, that is some HOT stuff! Beautiful!!! Yes, I'm jealous!

I am always dismayed at the cost of yarn. It puts many of my project ideas out of my price range. Hope you find a solution. ;-)

I am so jealous that you can do stuff like that. I would love to be able to make a bag, I am just no good at things like that. I love those colours too, can't wait to see what the finished article looks like.

I just bought a handmade bag off ebay, I am looking forward to it coming, there is nothing I have ever seen like that over here.

On that note, have you tried ebay for yarn? I know you don't like that site, but I have got some real bargains for a project I was doing - mens that your ideas are more attainable because you can afford to buy the materials - just a thought.

noooooooooo with the riasing of sheep. take it from one who knows. sheep are unbelievably stupid and dirty creatures that were put on this earth specifically to drive those who care for them insane! i gave up two precious weeks of my life to learn how to shear them and this taught me that i never ever ever want to touch a living sheep again!
