Worst Day on the job, EVER!
Dear Diary,

I have had four jobs now. Some of those days had been good, some of them days not so good. However, none of them prepared me for such a stressful day. Ok, let me start it out for you.

After nearly missing my bus, I finally get there. I clock in and then go to my register. It is really busy. This guy Steve is like, Where were you. Been looking for you all over. I reply, "I follow my schedule" He maybe doesn't hear me or is stubborn, he says, " I shouldn't have to cover your butt, and where were you Thursday" I say, "It was my day off" He then storms off like I did something wrong. With that, it starts the day bad. To top it off, it was REALLY busy and lines were long. Especially mines, I got in trouble because since I work leather department, I'm only suppose to take leather people and maybe one customer from line. So day gets worse.

After things settle down a bit, the worse part happens. Ok, so I'm seeing the long line and decide to give some relief by getting next customer in line, in the meanwhile, a women gets to my register and puts leather down, so anyways, I bring her to my register and realize that someone is already there, so I tell her, "I'm sorry, but I am suppose to take people with leather first, I can get you your place back in line." She is like, "NO, THAT IS BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! HOW YOU GONNA PULL ME OUT OF LINE THEN DECIDE NOT TO TAKE ME!!!" So I say, "Ma'am, that's are policy, I just follow it" THe lady who put her leathers decides to let her go first. So while I"m scanning her stuff, she is still going on about it. So I explain to her again the policy. She is like, "I KNOW THAT!!!! YOU SAID THAT ALREADY!!! They need to get train you for better customer service." I then am mad and tell her in a calm manner, "if you don't like the customer service here, you don't have to shop here any more, now just relax and and let me finish scanning" Then, her BIG GIANT 6'5 husband says in a VERY loud voice, "YOU DON'T TALK TO MY WIFE LIKE THAT!!!" The whole story got totally quiet. He is like, "Don't make me go over there. That's right, you better not say anything. Ha, you getting embarrassed in front of co-workers" I then try to finish sale. The lady throws the stuff down and storms off with him.

WHen its all over, Steve of all people comes over and tells me he called LP. *security* So I'm like, "thanks man" He then starts to complain because he is told to wait there with me He starts to say stuff like, I need to be upstairs. I am just there thinking about what happened and hoping this event dont' go against me. I wasn't scared of him that much despite his size. I was more scared of losing my job. Eventually, Steve leaves and i go back to ringing people up. I then get asked like 5 times what happened. That in itself gets me more angry that everyone took notice.

At 9, I ask immediate supervisor if I can go home slightly early because last bus leaves at 9:36. She is ok with it. I start to leave around 9:25 when Steve calls me over. He is like, "HEY, get over here" I tell him, "I am clocking out because I have to catch last bus" He is like, " you can't leave" I tell him i already cleared it with my supervisor and that was that. He then says, "why don't you walk" I tell him, "I'm not walking that far, i live in the *** **** area and that's way too far from here" He then tells me how he rides the bike. I ask him if he wants a cookie for that. He then says I'm a sissy for not walking. At that point, he nearly got punched. Luckily, I realized, this guy just isn't worth the effort. I say, "I have to go, have a nice night" I leave.

I get home and then chat to ally, alex, eliza, and then michelle. I think I scared ally with what i said. Kinda told at times I feel like suicide. *i thought she knew that already* Alex and eliza talk to me about trival things. With Michelle, I never even talked about my day. SHe just got my mind off of stuff and at end, felt 10 times better.

Hi, I just wanted to tell you I completely empathasise, as I am in sales as well. That cookie comment was great! :) Hope things go better for you, and remember, there's always ten other jobs out there just like yours.

Wow, that really was a stressful day. Instead of telling the lady if she didn't like the policy she didn't have to shop there, you could say she should take it up with the manager. Customers can really be unreasonable some times.

Hey, I'll try to be online this evening if you want to chat.

I've learned to just say 'I'm sorry' a lot, and sometimes 'I'm just following policy.' Sometimes they just want to vent. Anything else just gets them more mad.

As for Steve, if he keeps up that crap, I'd start documenting it. It's not like he's your supervisor, so he has no right to act that way. And if it interferes with you doing your job, his supervisor should know.
