I was in a chat room just recently while talking to an Arabian dude. He thinks that we are self-centered. And he did point out some interesting points that I thought I might think about. He was telling me that us Americans are only concered about ourselves, so while he was typing that, I was telling him that were not. Then he said, where was America's mourning when Turkey got hit with an earthquake that left more than 14,000 dead and 200,000 homeless. Or where is the coverage of terrorism going on in other countries. And how selfish is the song, God bless America. SO I tell him AMerica is blessed by God. Then he laughs. He says that it is so American to think that God favors one country over another. That made me think, are we self-centered, only caring when bad stuff happens to us. How we kinda force other countries to mourn. He also pointed out how only now people are coming together against terrorism only after it happens to "The grand" Americans.
WOw, I've never really thought about all that till that conversation. Still though, I think his style was wrong. I eventually left the chat. All I know is that we didn't "Force" anyone to mourn. And the Red cross did go to Turkey to help. ANd many American's did donate to them. Though not the response that we should've put forth. I'm not sure how I feel about those statements, I feel like I can't answer that title i put. I guess we are somewhat. We aren't wrong for making terrorism aparant to everyone, or putting it on the news, just that we should care more when other tragedies happen to others.
