I'm tired
Fri Aug 06 2004

Spent quite a bit of the last two days on the road.

Yesterday (Wednesday), my grandson gave me directions to the place to pick up his girlfriend. Her car is toast, unfortunately, and she needed a ride to his workplace, so that I could (later) deliver them both to a friend's house where they planned to spend the evening. I'm assuming the friend took them back home after partying, or whatever.

Anyway, I should have double-checked his directions. I know better than to take directions from a non-driver, but he's my grandson, and I figured he knew what he was telling me. He said to pick up his GF at the bus stop at the college. I knew of only one bus stop and that was in the front of the Admin building. Well, she didn't show up, so I called daughter (I love my cell phone) and found out that there's another bus stop around the corner on the other side of the campus. And there she was!

OK, so the kids got delivered, and I came home too late for my daily chat with my sister. I had warned her that I might not be home in time to chat, but still...I miss the chat.

So today (Thursday), I went to the monthly Leisure League luncheon, and ate my first piece of meat in 15 years. I've been a vegetarian that long. The luncheons are usually kosher vegetarian, but why hotdogs were served this time, I don't know. Anyway, I decided, what the heck, it probably wouldn't kill me. So I had a hotdog. And it was good. But I'm not going to start stocking hotdogs in my larder. It's still easier being a veggie.

So...per agreement, I went to daughter's house to pick up grandson's paycheck (which comes in the mail), and took it to GS at his workplace. We had about an hour before the end of his workday, and we had a nice chat. We have so little time together any more that I was happy for the excuse to spend some time with him. Anyway, I got him to the bank with minutes to spare so he could cash his check.

Before leaving daughter's house, we checked out some records that I had stored in her garage. I thought I got the box of singles that I wanted, but instead, when I had a chance to check what was in the box, I found they were albums of multiple records. Tch! That isn't what I wanted. Now I'm going to have to wait until we can go through all the boxes, and find the Belafonte records. Oh, yes, and Herb Alpert. I don't have any of their stuff on cassettes or CDs.

I think I can record from platter to cassette. Gotta look into that more closely.

So, after delivering GS home with money in hand, I hied me to my own home. Once again too late for sister-chat, so checked a few diaries, then headed to the shul for what I thought was going to be a Tanya class. Instead, it was a show put on by the day campers, and they were GREAT! I missed the barbecue that preceded the show, but that was OK; I was still full from the luncheon.

So, day camp is over with, and the children are preparing for school.

I don't have to drive anyone anywhere tomorrow. In fact, if nothing changes, I don't have to drive anyone anywhere until next Wednesday. Maybe I should get a chauffeur's license.

Shalom

    Dear Chaya,

What a great grandma you are! I sure hope your grandson appreciates you.

Yes, you can record from platter to cassette, but cassettes are not durable and the magnetic tape tends to get warped or damaged by fungi and electromagnetic waves. It is better to either buy the CDs or get someone to help you burn the songs onto a CD. I would do that, only it is technically piracy, and therefore, THEFT, even if you are doing it for your own use and not for sale.

Cell phones are useful inventions. I only use mine when necessary and not for playing games or downloading rubbish. If I were that bored, I could always read a book.

You and I should get together, Chaya. We'd have such a great time, since we have so many common interests.

    Love,
    E.L.

Whew! No wonder you are tired. I hope you have a pleasant restful weekend. I'm going to have to break down and invest in a cell phone myself, you really do need one in this busy day and age!

    Love,

    Good day
I so love the old vinyl recording. (45's, 33's) I have an old turntable which sits on an antique buffet. (Which I refinished) This turntable fastens to a real-to-real recorder. These are big reels of recording ribbon/tape. I can record up to 10 hours of music.. Possibly more(?) It has been so long since I have used it.. These stereo components came from a school auditorium which was being updated, but in it's day was state of the art.. And you know, some of my vinyl recordings are not in stereo, but good old mono.. LOL
    Isn't it a wonderful world?

Hope you enjoy your time without being chauffeur, and catch up with sister.
