Just got the weather report on the news. It's snow down to 500 feet, less than an hour away from where I'm sitting typing this. Today was about 50o but it was a bone-chilling 50o. There was wind, dry wind; overcast, gloomy day, and now I hear about snow. It could snow in Sacramento, and if it does, I'm not sticking my nose out the door until it all melts away. I'm NOT! No way.
Tracey asked me to take her to her dentist today. No problem. Oh-oh. Her dentist is in Stockton, not Sacramento. No problem. I got to play with Deirdre while Mom was being taken care of somewhere in another room.
The dear babe was hungry, and had a poopie diaper, too. So I took care of the diaper, because there is no way she was going to settle down to a bottle with a poopie diaper, but she had to fuss and let me know she was dammit-mad!
Offered her the bottle, and she wanted it, but there was something wrong. It tasted like Mom, but it wasn't warm like Mom. OK, hunger finally won out, and she emptied the bottle. Babies usually fall asleep when they have a full tummy and a clean diaper. Not this one. She was in a new place, and she was taking it all in. Of course, the dentist and all the staff had admired her before we went off to a quiet room.
Of course I held her while she was taking the bottle. And talked to her. And admired her beauty. Of course I did. It's been so long since I've had a baby in my arms. *sigh*
After she gave me a couple good burps, she got the hiccups. Oh, and when that child sneezes, she holds nothing back. I've heard adults sneeze quieter than that. Wa-CHOOO!!!
I've had a lovely day. I'm going to bed now.
Bless

- From:404Error (Legacy)On:Fri Dec 28 2007I went to the store tonight (just after the icy rain began, of course) and as I was coming out I told my kid that I couldn't believe how cold it was and it wasn't snowing. Just then a frosty blast forced its way into my hood and blew all the way around my head. It was like taking a dip in liquid nitrogen gas! I was instantly frozen! (And there's no heat in my car, either!)
As for Tracey's dentist, aren't there sadists, er, um, dentists in Sac? - From:DancingButterfly (Legacy)On:Fri Dec 28 2007How lovely. I love holding newborns :)
She might be in a different routine, these days we are encourage to have our babies sleep, feed and play before going to sleep. This is supposed to stop the bad habit of feeding them to sleep. I don't know if it works for everyone, but it worked for my babies.
Now you've gone and got me all clucky again! My toddlers are too big to lay quietly in my arms so I can gaze into their eyes and their souls. - From:ImNotLisa (Legacy)On:Fri Dec 28 2007LOL Variegated green I don't have, which is shocking since green is usually my favorite color for baby stuff. If you don't mind to send it my way that would be great, I'll get started as soon as it arrives. :o)
- From:ImNotLisa (Legacy)On:Fri Dec 28 2007LOL on the loud sneezes. My mother says I used to scare her every time when I was a baby. Now I just scare R! ;o)

They are something else....
I've only seen it snow once here in 9 years. And it was only for about 2 minutes.
I wouldn't get too worried! - From:Waterspriteflying (Legacy)On:Fri Dec 28 2007''Babies--what a great way to start people!'' Aren't they just the very best and sweetest?
RYC: I always have to decide which ''Peace on Earth'' to use, and almost always choose the more inclusive one. Maybe there would be more ''men of goodwill'' if there were more peace. I don't know.
RY2C: What are Jewish funerals like?
Love,
Ani - From:Dustbunny3 (Legacy)On:Fri Dec 28 2007Hang in there! I have heard it said by a few, that there are times one just has to hunker down like a Jackass in a Hail storm and take IT.
Found it is true for been there myself a number of times.
- From:DancingButterfly (Legacy)On:Sat Dec 29 2007Saw your comment on WaterSpriteFlying's diary about Jewish funerals. I heard they are held the same day as the person died, or before sunset. Is that correct?
I like the idea of Sheva, it allows people to grieve properly and fully, and then resume some semblance of life afterwards.
Blessings. - From:Mamallama (Legacy)On:Sat Dec 29 2007Hurray for days spent with babies!
Can't think of a better way to spend a day.
Hugs, Tiggs - From:Dreamerbooks2003 (Legacy)On:Sat Dec 29 2007Bone chilling?? Heck I'd thaw at that hot of a temp.. we have had as low at -9 below 0... F!!!
course that isn't where I live, but in the basin.. east of here.. and denver was buried in snow... we have 3 storms.. one after the other just ahead of the 2 we just weathered..
Oh my.. .. lovely to hold a new born.. I can still feel the angels about them.. and the stars in their eyes.. how wonderful!
Are you all better then?? I hope your new year is grand.. and you celebrate with more and more new baby time
hugs - From:DancingButterfly (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 30 2007I like that idea of not bringing the casket into a synagogue. Sometimes I wonder about bringing coffins into churches. Some people have their funerals at chapels specifically held for the service with the casket, and they can either be cremated there, or taken down to the burial plot just outdoors.
I like the idea of burying old bibles and manuscripts with the casket, I couldn't just toss out my great-grandmother's old bibles. Thank you for that idea.
Be careful with the trifle :) Very addictive! If you don't consume alcohol, you can soak the sponge cake squares in fruit juice instead.
Blessings. - From:DancingButterfly (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 30 2007RYC: No, no family history in it. Just very old bibles from the late 1800's, brown, leatherbound, falling apart, and pages falling out. They used to take it to church, but not read it there or at home. I guess that's what I'd call a 'Sunday Christian', someone who goes to church on Sundays to put up the appearance of being a Christian, with a new looking bible as an accessory.
I've only had mine for 5 years, but the gold leaf has worn off the pages, there's lots of scribbling and highlighting through it. I know we treat our bibles a little differently to the Torah, it is a revered document, especially those written in Hebrew.
I like to read the old and new testaments, as I know my faith has its roots in Judaism, and there's a lot of commensense that we could do with in today's society.
