Today was a fast day, and while I'm unable to do a total fast, I was able to get by with liquids. Lots of tea. But wouldn't you know--friends from Eureka were coming through and wanted to have lunch with me and a mutual friend. He had called a couple times when I couldn't answer the phone, so I finally called the mutual friend and told her that noon today was fine, but I was fasting. However, I would go to the restaurant with them.
While getting ready, got a phone call from Allen's eldest telling me that she couldn't remember if she'd locked the garage door, and that there was a book in the car for me. I told her I'd stop by on the way to lunch. She had locked the garage door.
Also discovered that I was desperately in need of gas. But the ATM machine at the service station wouldn't accept my card. What???? So I stopped at the bank on the way and checked, and there was plenty of money in the account. But I withdrew some cash, just in case. Tried another station. Same result. Good thing I'd had the forethought to get cash, as we never would have made it to friend's house, and I have a horror of being out of gas on the freeway. I called local friend and told her we were on the way, but we'd be late, so wait for us. Oh, yes, Rena was with me this weekend. That's the "us" I'm talking about.
Well, we finally go to M's house, only 10 minutes late, but nobody seemed to care. It was finally decided to go to a Chinese place nearby. No matter to me, since I wasn't eating anyway. My, my the portions they serve there!!! You come to Sacramento, and you want good Chinese, just give me a call.
Anyway, after friend D and his wife left to go back to Eureka, M asked Rena if she'd like to see the pool and clubhouse. The pool is heated! all year round. I used to live there, but I was still employed, so I made very little use of the facilities there. Anyway, M asked Rena if she'd like to see the clubhouse. Well, of course. We watched three ladies playing Kings in the Corner (interesting, easy card game), then I just happened to mention that there was a pool table.
There was nothing for it but that Rena should be taught how to play pool. She begged. Boy! have I ever lost my touch. So we had one game and came out about even score-wise. I missed some easy shots, and I hang my head in shame. But Rena caught on quickly. I had to keep reminding her that the colored balls went in the pockets. Not the white cue ball.
I finally convinced her it was time to take her home, and besides it was getting close to the time that I could EAT! and I wanted to get home.
Had pizza.
So ends my weekend.
