Birthdays, when my kids were growing up, were treated as extra special days. They got to choose the dinner menu and to invite a friend to share the dinner. This was in addition to a party. There are probably several million people in this world who were born on the same day I was, and probably a lot of them at the same hour. But this is MY day, and I treated the childrens' birthdays as their special days.
So, again, thanks for being with me on my special day.

Now for today's quote:
"You have shown me that everything comes good in the end; and that if it isn't good, it's not the end."
I hope that's true. Sometimes a setback is to make room for something better later on. A friend thought she had a wonderful job, but it turned out to be less than wonderful. Now she has another job that promises to be what she was looking for all along. So, maybe she had to have the job that wasn't so good to take care of her until the good job came along.
I've had things turn out less than satisfactory, but that has taught me, after I've had time for reflection, that there was a lesson there that I needed to learn.
I don't remember the exact quote, so I'll paraphrase it to the best of my memory. "Learn from others' mistakes, because you don't have time to make them all yourself."
Be an observer of the good, and understand why it is good.
Be an observer of the bad, and discover how to make it good.
A very famous Jewish author, whose name escapes me at the moment, wrote a book "Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?" What I got from that was not really a clear-cut answer, but an answer that satisfied me. Because that's just what happens in life.
Was it Ann Landers who said "When life gives you a lemon, make lemonade."?
Make something good.
Shalom
