Good news
Thu Mar 19 2009

Saw Dr O'Malley today. Reversal of the colostomy is scheduled for the middle of May. The only reason it's that far off is that his schedule is full. The surgery is tentatively scheduled for 14 May. As my daughter says, In time for Mother's Day.

I've been taking 325mg of iron twice a day, but I'm still anemic. Maybe I should stock up on spinach. What else has high iron content? Have to Google it.

The ostomy is somewhat herniated, but Dr O'M didn't seem concerned about it. I can't wear close fitting clothing because there's quite a lump there what with the bag and its attachments. Oh, I'm getting to loathe that thing.

I complained to a friend about the odor, and she said her mother was told to use Listerine in the bags of her ostomy patients. So now I smell like Listerine Cool Mint.  It's odd, but sure beats the poopy smell.

You'd think that by now, with all the practice I've had, I would be able to apply a secure patch that didn't leak. Wrong.  Just about every one has been changed because there was a leak. See? One more reason to get the job done.

On a brighter, happier note, it may not be spring officially according to the calendar, but Ma Nature doesn't pay attention to calendars.  I stopped off at Yetzirah's on the way home from the doc. The second leg of the way home was by the long way. Fields of green green gorgeous green!!  Even where there was build-up, the surrounds were green. It's in the 70s today, and I had to use the air conditioner on the way home. My car was just too warm for comfort. And I am SO ready for this season.

I have some cream of broccoli soup slow cooking on the stove, and boiling beets for pickling. I should go stick a fork in one of the beets to see how close they are to cooling and pickling. My mouth is beginning to water.

Nope. They need more time.

There's enough broccoli soup for dinner this evening and a few containers for the freezer. I am blessed.

Bless

RYC - I do buy pickled beets, but I am going to try them in the garden this year and hopefully can grow enough to can.
I searched for recipes on-line and found several easy and tasty sounding ones.
    Thanks for yours!

That's a good tip - Listerine! Hope you get the colostomy reversed, and a lovely new toilet!

Hello, love! I'm home, and playing catch-up, hitting "Previous entry" again and again.

I had to stop here, because I got a flash back reading about the beets. I was making beet relish years ago, when Deci was about 3. Phone rang, and when I got back from answering it, I noticed Deci had some chopped beet in her hand.

"Put that back!" says I, and she very obediently did exactly that. Including the mouthful I didn't know she had, right back into the bowl!

(I'll be so happy for you when that osotomy thing is GONE!)

    Love and hugs,
    Ani
