Departures
Wed Apr 19 2006

Sezrah has taken leave of us here at DD.  She did give warning that she was thinking of leaving, but it's still a shock to know that one of the brightest and best has left us.

Not only will I miss her clear-eyed take on life and happenings, I'll miss her photography.  It reflected what is important to her.  And what is important is not grandiose dreams, but down to earth reflections on her life, her friends, her aspirations.

Yes, Sez, a lot of people are going to miss you.  Maybe you'll come back??

Another friend was taken away today.  A tree.  A huge tree.  Outside my living room, and it kept my apartment cool in our scorching Sacramento summers.  But it was sick.  It hadn't leafed out at all this spring, and the only leaves were those from last summer, all brown and dried up.  All the greenery in that tree was mistletoe.  The trunk had split in several places, and one split appeared to be about three feet long.  Yes, the tree was on its last roots.

I hope the owner has plans to get trees from SMUD, and will be planting them very quickly.  The property looks denuded without the trees.   I guess I'll have to keep the vertical blinds closed all summer, as it can get very hot with the sun coming through the windows, even though I have double-paned glass.

There's nothing left now to attract the birds.  Where will my cats find their entertainment?  They take turns sitting in the window and observing their little piece of the world.

That all, Folks.

Shalom

Oh, you are right, that tree will be sorely missed! But, I do remember it as being quite sickly. I remember thinking that tree wouldn't be around much longer the last time I was down.

Does SMUD give the trees away free? If so, ask your landlord if you can get one and have it planted. The Kid LOVES to plant trees, and he digs a gorgeous hole! I can't see that he'd object if it doesn't cost him anything.

    Hugs,

Is there any way you could have a window box put at the window, then grow something that vines (it's early, morning glories and sweet peas are all that tome to mind at the moment for this) with a trellis of some sorts around or in front of the window for them to grow on and shade your window?

Ohhh Chaya.... I share your sorrow at the tree being removed. I know what a sense of loss the felling of a tree brings. I've been there too many times. I am so sorry. But we both understand that the tree was diseased and must make way for a healthy one. Still I wish they had tried to treat the tree first.

As for Sez, her e-mail came as a shock, and when I tried to gain access into her diary and found that I couldn't, it was an even bigger shock.

Even though she may no longer have a diary here, she is still my sister and one of my best friends. I know I can contact her for anything important, and I know we will keep in touch. I miss her very much already, though.

I too hope Sez will come back one day. Maybe she will pace herself and manage her time so that her diary will not consume all her time. I stopped writing daily and now write only once a week, and read other diaries and leave comments only twice a week, and find that I am coping fine. The world doesn't come to an end because I left out a few friends' entries.

    Take care, dear Chaya.

    Love,
    E.L.

Yep, we are going to miss our Sezrah. No doubt about it...

Sorry to hear about your tree. That is really too bad, it was a big one too...

If they don't put a new one in, we will okay???

My dad had an old giant pine removed.. the parks dept was considering taking it.. for transplant in park.. but it looked to be too large a project for them.. so dad did it himself.. I was sick over it
