I bought a fruitcake today. Hey, I Lve fruitcake. I start looking for it in the markets about the first of November. I really-really do like fruitcake. I don't care what anybody says, fruitcake is good!
I had a couple bites of the loaf I bought this morning and suspected a tang of a certain vintage. Yep. Bourbon. Rum. Brandy. So I took another bite to confirm my first impression. It was the brandy I was tasting. So I was thinking maybe I should take it a little easy and wait another hour for the second slice.
I missed my hair cutting appointment yesterday. Long story short, I fell asleep when all I planned to do was rest my back a few minutes. Woke up to the knocking on my door. After taking care of that, I got on the phone and wildly apologized and begged for another appointment. I got it. Seven thirty this morning. SEVEN BLEEDING THIRTY AYEM!!! That lady knows how to torture her clients. But I got a haircut. I was beginning to look like Phyllis Diller.
When I went out to the car, I could have sworn it snowed last night. The grass, the bushes, all the cars were frosty. Not just the windows. The whole cars. I was frantically scraping frost off my windows, knowing I was going to be late to my SEVEN THIRTY A.M. haircutting appointment. And no gloves. And only a sweater. When I finally got going, I was driving with one hand on the steering wheel and one hand under the opposite armpit. Brrrr. Maria Haircutter informed me that it was 29o Fahrenheit overnight. More Brrrr!!!
I never did get a nap today.
Oh, the knocking on the door? Another delivery from Harry & David. Gigantic pears from my wonderful sister. Pears and goodies from my son and pears from my sister. I think they'll be ready for eating tomorrow. How good is life!!
Shalom and Happy Holidays to Everyone!

- From:Dreamerbooks2003 (Legacy)On:Wed Dec 20 2006PYC: Yeah.. it seems like a book a week. but some of those are real easy reads.. and only took a night.. others.. took a month!! and some are ongoing.. Like the Koran.. and a few others.. reference type books.. the one on Neptune..
Mostly they are easy to read books that only take a day or two to get through.
If I didn't have my books.. I'd be over the edge~! Really.. with all that has gone on, my reading has slowed down.. but when I do read it takes me out of all that.. and so.. I read

*raises eyebrow with you*
(and I've added you to my list) ;) - From:404Error (Legacy)On:Wed Dec 20 2006I heard a good fruitcake joke the other day.
"Remove fruitcake from box.
Display fruitcake on Christmas.
Return untouched fruitcake to box.
Store in freezer.
Repeat annually."
That's how it would work at my house!
Nana used to make something this time of year called "Bishop's Bread." It was a sort of fruitcake, I suppose, but it was different. It had a very firm, golden cake filled with whole Brazil nuts, marischino cherry halves and big chunks of chocolate. It was actually pretty good.

x - From:Waterspriteflying (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 24 2006Brrr, indeed! Makes me shiver just to think of it.
The fruitcake does sound yummy. I have to admit I like it, too, at least if it's well-made. There's some out there that's just plain nasty. And the pears sound mouth-wateringly good.
I googled xebu and didn't find an animal, but maybe it's in the paper dictionary. And the one we came up with for Q (quahog) turned out to be a shellfish. dang.
