Pasadena - a new home
Thu Jun 05 2003

We're in the market for our very own home. Stan has a steady income, and a future.

There's a new housing tract going up, and we can choose the lot, the colors of the interior and exterior, and there's a GARAGE! A double one, at that. But so what if we have only one car. A double garage to put it in.

We choose the lot at the bottom of the U, with an empty field behind it, and only 4 or 5 houses built so far. For some reason we choose the exterior colors of black with lime trim. No mistaking that house, and so easy to give directions. "Just look for the black house with the lime trim."

We also get to choose the interior decor, and that's mostly my choice. The bathroom colors will be pink, light gray and white tile, and white fixtures. Very pretty and clean looking.

Stevie helps pick out the colors and decor for his room. We end up with railroad cars as the main theme. The walls are cream colored with a dark red border. I don't know how to describe the color exactly, but it was attractive.

Stan's room I left entirely up to him. But our bedroom was suitably decorated to go with our antique furniture. There was a floral border (old fashioned roses) up near the ceiling. The walls were off white.

The kitchen had a small breakfast area, but we didn't use it as such. We used the dining area of the combination living/dining room. The kitchen had lots of lovely cupboards, natural wood color, linoleum patterned in squares. The stove was built in, but we had to buy a refrigerator. Under the one window of the kitchen there was a planter box. I wasn't real successful in growing anything in it, though.

Except for the kitchen and the bathroom, all the flooring was wood.

A large window (picture window it was called) in the living room looked out into the street, and I could see the whole neighborhood.

Papa bought Stevie a 2-wheel bicycle with training wheels. We also got a small dog and named him Rafferty. Because when he barked he said Raff! Boy and dog were never separated. Stevie was pedalling madly on the street as far as he was allowed to go, and Rafferty was madly panting after him.

Stevie also explored the empty field behind us, but I could see him from the kitchen window, so he mostly outdoors except for meals and bedtime. And Rafferty exploring with him.

A HOME! Wow! I finally got my wish.

Next: Oh, I dunno. I'll think of something.

Shalom

What a lovely home! And a railway-themed room for the little boy -- what luxury! I'd have loved to have a railroad-themed room as a child, but Asians never bothered decorating a room for a child back then. A room was just a place to store schoolbooks, toys and mattresses.
Rafferty - I love that name. Now I have that Gerry Rafferty song from Reservoir Dogs, 'Stuck In The Middle With You', haunting me. Isn't it great that Stevie and Rafferty had each other?
    Love,

i bet it was as beautiful as it sounds too. i have a thing for big picture windows, windows in general actually, with loads of light. there's something about stepping into a home that is open and filled with natural light, wouldn't you say? ;)

    thanks for the comment
re distractions from the goal: it was a goal i had purposely set but not one the Lord wanted me to aim for, so He changed my lifes direction and set me on a completely different path, one i would never have chosen for myself
its something i still want but the timing for my life was just wrong obviously, as Daddy always knows best :)

    take care

I don't know if I have ever seen a black house with lime trim....sounds interesting. I would think that the black would really absorb that Huston heat real well. I love to hear about a boy and his dog....I remember my childhood dog Pat so well.

The house sounds lovely. I notice your page is similar . . . green with black. *smile* How wonderful to get to pick everything out new . . . and what a way you came from the smaller living quarters to this luxury! I am sure it was a wonderful experience, moving into this new home.
