Doors were held for me by three young men today, and one employee of the service station. The fact that I walk with a cane may have hand something to do with it, but not everything. I know this because, doors have not been held for me when I was walking with a cane. And these were young men of the generation accused of being thoughtless, me-me generation, where-are-your-manners generation.
In the bank today, a young man in the waiting line offered to let me go ahead of him. I told him I didn't mind waiting for my turn, and I thanked him for the offer.
I've misplaced my ATM card, and after four days of searching, I decided I needed to replaced it. The person I was directed to has a familiar name, and I had to tell him about another boy I knew from birth with that same name. He made like he enjoyed the story. I also complained about being charged by the bank for using my money in my savings account to cover an overdraft in my checking account. A transfer of funds that I should have done myself, admittedly. I also said that if the bank used their money to cover my overdraft, then the fee was certainly appropriate. He agreed with me, and reversed the the charge. So now I have another $10 in my checking account.
His business card identifies him as a Personal Banker and Home Equity Specialist. He said that I was to consider him my Personal Banker. How about that?! I have a Personal Banker. Me and my two-bit checking/savings account.
I have developed an odd rash that comes and goes. Itches like crazy. I can't wear any metal next to my skin now. Except gold, maybe. I did wear a gold watch that didn't bring up the rash. The rash on my belly shows up at bedtime and when my skin is hot as in a hot shower. It doesn't always itch. The rash on my wrists comes and goes, also, and is itching right now. On my legs, I just want to tear the skin off. The itching is awful. Just awful!! My Dr B once laughed and said that I presented him with some very interesting problems. Well, he can't enjoy this one, as he retired the first of the year. The doctor who replaced him is probably OK, but I'm not sure if I can make jokes with him. With a little luck and persistence, I may get him trained. He does seem pleasant enough.
Don't hold your (collective) breath, but you may be seeing some pictures of Deirdre one of these days soon. I got some directions I think I can follow. Ah crum! Now what did I do with the printed page? The gremlins, the Black Hole, and Murphy are working overtime in the Pragmatist's home. It'll turn up, just like my missing ATM card, as soon as I have the new one in hand.
Bless

- From:Mamallama (Legacy)On:Wed Mar 05 2008Are you on any new meds that could be causing the rash? Puzzling.
Hope it is solved and soon. Very annoying to say the least.
Hugs, Tiggs - From:Lakestars (Legacy)On:Wed Mar 05 2008I agree with Mama. It could be the medication that you are taking? It happened to me before and drove me nuts!
Stay Well!
Hugs xox - From:Ksmiley (Legacy)On:Wed Mar 05 2008We do not get decent kids these days in this generation and when we do, we know that they were brought up right by a good family. As for your title, Chivalry is not dead is a very good title for this entry. I enjoy reading your thoughts.
- From:Welshamethyst (Legacy)On:Wed Mar 05 2008The rash could be medicine-related but it could be exzema which is often found on the trunk of the body and does feel worse after a hot shower.
R can't wear a watch in the winter because it will bring on the rash. I'd never had it before this year when I got a weird shaped, scaley, red, super painful itchy spot on the back of my leg. I showed it to my Dr. and he commented that it was in the rough shape of a foot. DUH. I have a habit of tucking my left leg under my right thigh when I sit and that was creating enough of a pressure point to cause exzema. Nice.
As to the chivalry, I have to say that as a woman, I want and expect doors to be held for me. It's common courtesy but a lot of women think it's patronizing *rolls eyes*. I ALWAYS hold doors for elderly people and give up public seats to them or to pregnant women. Again, just simple courtesy but that seems to be a dying thing. I remember when mom was in a wheel chair and it used to just aggrevate the snot out of me when people would watch me struggle to open a door and get her through without ever offering to help. I finally got the hang of it but that really isn't the point. I'm just glad you got wonderful service from those fine gentlemen!
Hugs - From:Dustbunny3 (Legacy)On:Thu Mar 06 2008Funny how aftering living here in the East and Calif then a few years in ARK .I was most taken by the South as the youth address you as Sir or Mam and if they know you just a few times you become Mr Dave or in your case Miss Chaya . Very refreshing and I miss it. I will note that here in Ohio the ladies young or older are in such a
hurry it is almost impossible to open a door or offer help but I do it anyway to remind them Chivalry is not dead . - From:Dreamerbooks2003 (Legacy)On:Thu Mar 06 2008Oh yeah.. nice you found a couple gentlemen
and cool about your banker..
That rash could clear up if you take benedril..
I think it is spelled like that??? might be Benedryl.
it is used for allergies and stuff.. but helps with lots of different things..
I can't take it.. used to be able to.. now it makes me nervous.. But it helps with that metal rash.. I used to be ultra sensitive to metal also...
