A bit cranky
Sun Dec 26 2004

Now the Christian festivities are over, and we have a week until the New Year. I don't make resolutions, so I'm not going to list any here.

Today the shul was quite full. There was a family celebrating the birth of a child, but I wonder where they've been the rest of the year? They come for special occasions, then we don't see them again.

The meal after services was extra good, though.

For a couple new readers, I'd like to correct a couple misunderstandings. I don't celebrate Christmas. I'm Jewish. We do not accept Jesus (proper Jewish name: Yehoshuah) as anything but a nice Jewish boy who was trying to make his followers behave. Some rabbis make a much stronger denial than that, but I'll leave my statement as it is.

Also. Orthodox Jews go to synagogue (or shul, Yiddish word). Conservative Jews go to synagoguge, too. Temple is the word used by Reform Jews. Actually, there hasn't been a true Temple since the Romans destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem, but the Reforms commemorate the memory.

Yes, there are several levels of observance among the Jews. Same as with the Christians. Note the difference in theology and practice between Roman Catholics and Southern Baptists. Probably the same with every religion since the world began.

I absolutely HAVE TO GET THE "GUEST" ROOM CLEANED UP. I want my granddaughter for a few days while she's on school winter vacation. It's an absolute chaos in there, and it's going to take some concentrated effort to make a pathway to the bed.

But not tonight. It's time for bed.

Shalom

All these different religions help keep the world in proper human perspective.
    CHAOS!
But contemplate the alternatives. Some are frightening.
Shalom and enjoy your grand-daughter's visit!

Sounds as though you need a good rest!

I am on my learning quest in earnest and will be doing my reading up on Judaism, with a section for my website. The URL for the web site is
www.calanthablossoming.com with a link in my menu bar. However, only the main page is there so far, which is going to change shortly, so not much to look at yet!

I have wished 'Happy Holidays' to my Jewish friends as well as Christian, Buddhist and others . . . wondering as I did so if it would be offensive. The Jewish people I have known often have had a Christmas tree in their home and exchange cards, etc. but keep it to the generic 'Season's Greetings'.

Christmas is a strange holiday and there is so much I dislike about it, ESPECIALLY the commercialism. I have enjoyed my laid back version immensely!

My sister had a whole set of books about religions around the world and their history, I wish I had that.

Well, off to read my new book (Grisholm) and then perhaps spend some time on the web site.

    Happy weekend!

Now the poor souls traviling over the Siskiyou pass will be Cranky for they must Chain UP and so many holiday travelers from the flat lands will be ripped off by the Chain gang guys.
I admire you for being a Orthodox Jew for I could not make it for it demands are so hard and I love my meat to much.

Oh my goodness, chaos is an understatement in my house. There is a pathway now to my sewing machine, but at the cost of more junk stacked anothr 4 feet in that room.....good luck with spare room. LOL
I love my grandchildren over for a visit. NOW that is what makes me smile. Have a great visit.

    Hi Chaya!

You don't know cranky until you've seen me when someone's interrupting my concentration on a football (soccer) match!

I love learning about Judaism, and I had to laugh at the bit where you said:
"We do not accept Jesus (proper Jewish name: Yehoshuah) as anything but a nice Jewish boy who was trying to make his followers behave."

That's hilarious, and very irreverent. Like in Monty Python's 'Life of Brian'.

Wished I lived close by, then I can help you with the cleaning.

    Lots of Love,
    E.L.

How is your guest room coming?
I wish I had one. Well, I mean other than the room Kody is in...
