Still dead
Tue Jun 10 2008

I clicked on the spell-check icon and lost my entry.  ??

Thanks to all of you who responded to my query about laptop vs stationary pc.  I like the portability of the laptop, but whatever I do will have to wait until there's money in the budget. As of now, it ain't happenin' very soon.

I'm planning a trip to Washington to visit daughter and granddaughter.  I'm driving, but with the cost of gas, I might be better off flying.  However, I'm also transporting one of Rena's friends who will be staying with them for a while. Maybe permanently.  I'll take two days for the trip. Fourteen hours of driving isn't practical.

On the way back, I hope to take a side trip to see my cousin-in-law and her daughters.  My cousin died a year ago, and I've kept in touch with Ann. She's a very nice lady, and I'm glad Graham found a help-meet who could put up with him.  I loved him more like a brother, but I noticed that he had some "control issues." Much like his parents.

Want to stop off at Calichef's also. Was planning to see her on the way up, but that was before I acquired a passenger.

After all that, I'll start saving for a computer, or maybe just a Nerd-fix, if I'm lucky.  Maybe my sister will continue to monitor my DD and pass on any startling news.  In the meantime, I'll plead puter time with assorted friends.

Bless

Sounds like a great trip and how nice to have company along, too.
Have fun and I hope your computer troublems are solved quickly.
Thanks for your comment and well wishes.

when are you going to M & R's??? Give them both hugs from me... :/ **please**
a friend of R's may be moving in permanently?? Oh I do want to know more!! snoopy me.. it's my nature..** ;)

I was trying to get in but DD froze up.. anyway.. I know someone wrote that Dell's are cheep for a reason.. I disagree.. I don't know about their laptops.. and would go apple/Mac if I went laptop.. but for a desktop you can get a good Dell computer.. I had one for 5 yrs.. and they are upgradable, good warrantee, service, a fairly good price..
I also like some of the desktops at BestBuys - but you have to be careful they (the geek squad)don't sell you a LOT of stuff you don't need.. I have seen them do that to people..
anyway.. Hope to hear from you soon.
Can you use your library for temp computer??? or... an idea... talk your apart community to put a computer in the day room / club house??? Is that a possibility. ?? or is there one you can use your synagogue?
    Hugs and love,
    p

    I like my laptop.

But I also like my PC on the desk too.

It is really nice to cozy up and be comfortable with the computer though....

    Tough call.

    Have a nice trip.

    When do you leave?

I've just completed a write-up on Desktop vs. Laptop computers for the Nature Society newsletter. The energy savings could really be up to 80% if you are using a laptop. Since you are not a serious gamer or graphic designer, I don't see a reason for you to stick to a desktop, since you don't need so much memory space.

My parents bought themselves a laptop (with some help from me) via an interest-free installment scheme offered by the bank. It is a wonderful alternative to a traditional desktop since you don't have to buy a big ugly desk to go with it.

Alternatives to flying & driving: Is it possible or practical to take the Greyhound Bus instead? Are there any other more fuel-efficient and safer alternatives, like rail or water travel?

    Love,
    E.L.
