Literacy Program
Tue Nov 22 2005

I got a folder from the Sac Library (I'm on the list of Friends of...), about the library's Literacy Program, and it sounded like something I'd like to do.  Called the number, but no call-back.  The e-mail address shown on the folder came back as non-existent.

So I stopped by the local library on the way back from the dr's office.  The librarian was very helpful and connected me (by phone) with someone I could tell I was interested in tutoring.  I wasn't home more than five minutes before I got a call from the coordinator.

The training is on one Thursday evening (I can miss Kabbalah class once), but the intensive training day is all day Saturday.  Well, that won't work.  She picked up on that immediately and asked me if that was my Sabbath day.  Her name is Judith, so I suspect she may be Jewish, too, so she caught the Sabbath thing right away.

Well, since I can't take the training, and those are the only two times scheduled, she suggested RSVP, also a volunteer organization, which also looks for tutors.  So I'm going to give them a call and see what happens.  Also have in mind Foster Grandparents, but I'm afraid that might be too much like CASA, and that's a burn-out situation after 2-3 years.  But a phone call should clear up any doubts.

I need to do something worthwhile.  I've done nothing but pamper myself for far too long.

Further comments after I've made some phone calls.

Shalom
