One day we chatted about a multiplicity of things, and I wondered "How did we get on that subject?" She said she had tried to track conversations from beginning to end, but it was impossible to figure out how we got from one subject to another.
One day? Every day. She plays bridge on Thursdays, so the conversation usually starts with my asking how her game went. Cards haven't been too nice to her lately. Sometimes the whole 1-1/2 hours are nothing but inconsequentials, and sometimes I get on a rant about something. There's not much she can do about it. She just may as well sit there and read until I get done. Or maybe she plays with her cats until I type "endit." But then sometimes she interrupts me with "Hey, you're talking to a believer."
So I calm down, and we go onto something less blood pressure raising. Well, now, all this is leading up to something else.
Much as I love my sister, I don't believe we could live together. We both tend to be hermits, cherish our quiet times, and we'd probably get on each other's nerves just being in the same room. I had some overnight guests last night, and breathed a huge sigh of relief when they finally left this afternoon. I am NOT a hostess type. I enjoy company, but please go home after a couple hours--unless I beg you to stay, of course!
I have lunch with a dear friend three Thursdays out of the month, and in two hours, we're usually saying our goodbyes. Luvya. Seeya next week.
People fascinate me, but I can take them only in small doses.
My husband (may he rest in peace) was a teacher and declared open house to any and all who wanted to come and hold "important conversations," or just socialize. Some of those kids were really brilliant, and sometimes we'd go on until the wee hours of the morning. Jumping from subject to subject, as my sister and I do on the net. Or tearing apart a philosophical idea. Or discussing the lastest scifi book. Analyzing what the author was trying to get across to his/her readers. Oh, my, what discussions those were!
So what happened to me? I get my ideas/discussions from books nowadays. They make me think, and they don't talk back when I disagree with a point.
Oh, well, bedtime. Maybe I'll figure it out.
