It was fun. I found out that this is a new club. I think that explains the esprit, the liveliness, the energy I first felt two weeks ago. Most of the members work in the same building housing an agency that has something to do with water. Four stories, and lots of offices, so not everybody knows everybody, but many faces are familiar. "Oh, she works in the back of the building," was the kind of recognition that was explained to me. They're all working and doing their part to making the club a success. In fact, the president of the club is entered into the international speech contest. Which means he's not a newbie to Toastmasters.
The club is called Fair Weather Toastmasters. Because? Because they work for a water agency, and water conservation is a major focus. But when it's raining and flooding those become the major concerns of the moment. So when that's happening, they hunker down to their jobs, which makes Fair Weather time for Toastmasters. Logical, eh?
The president asked me to introduce myself, then at the end of the meeting asked if I had any comments. (Silly boy!) Also, I volunteered to speak at Table Topics, an extemporaneous one-minute talk on a subject given by the TT Toastmaster. My subject was what would I fix for dinner for my Valentine. When I was done, I looked around the room and asked "Wanna come?" Got a laugh all around.
Thinking about previous speeches, it seems they were all geared toward a punchline. Am I a frustrated stand-up comic?
The rest of the day was mostly spent shredding paper and chatting on-line with my sister. Made a half-hearted attempt at doing something in the back room. Maybe quarter-hearted would be the better word, for all I accomplished. Missy managed to tip over the top box of a stack of three. It went with a crash. Didn't see her again for an hour or more.
Tomorrow's a busy day, so I probably ought to do something about cleaning all the junk off my bed so I can get to bed at a decent hour so I can get up at a decent hour so I can get stuff done before I start running. It isn't what ya gotta do that keeps ya busy; it's what ya gotta do before you do what needs to be done before you can do what ya gotta do in the first place.
Bless
