Why?
Sun May 29 2005

I have a son who doesn't much care for me, but he does admit I have some admirable qualities. In fact he calls me a ballsy old broad.

At first I was amused, but thinking about it, I'm a little upset. Why is a strong, confident woman equated to the masculine gonads? Because I've weathered many a personal storm, been able to continue, make decisions, and take care of myself (and family, too, until they reached majority), why can't I just be admired as a woman of strength? Why must my strength be seen as a masculine trait?

Incidentally, somewhere in my files is a writing about A Strong Woman versus a Woman of Strength. If I can find it, I'll post it here.

And I'm also called sassy. Because I have opinions and express them, because I stand up for myself, because I'm not dependent on someone else's opinion, I'm sassy?

Why?
