Preparations

I went to the kosher store today and we worked on a menu for my birthday party. I had to order separate meat and cheese trays for my private party, as the rabbi would absolutely never let that combination get by on the grounds of an orthodox shul.

I want to have a selection for my private guests, some of whom are vegetarians and some who are meat eaters. If they don't keep kosher, that's OK by me, but I surely do.

I ordered a chocolate on chocolate cake, but not with happy birthday on it. All I want is a big 80 on it.

I'll be making the potato salad in the shul kitchen. I don't like anyone else's potato salad, so I'm going to make it myself. I do like the deli's cole slaw. Now that I'm writing about this, I can't remember what all I ordered. Meat, cheese, deli trays, assorted breads, cole slaw, cake (another salad?). I guess I'll be surprised when he calls me and tells me the cost. Oh, I'll provide mixed fruit salad, and mixed greens.

There. That's the menu.

Okay, now where's that list I made? Better tape it up where it won't get lost. I can't be trying to figure out what to buy at the last minute, just because I can't keep track of a list. Tch!

Oh, yes, there'll be cholent and challah. Have to give Rabbi a check for that.

So the party isn't going to be until 2 July, but I need to plan ahead. I tend to procrastinate. No that's not quite truthful. I am a procrastinator non pareil!

Y'ALL COME. HEAH?

*********

Friend was walking home from shul Friday evening and stepped in a hole. Has a broken ankle (left), and a gouged knee (right) and scrapes all down her shin. She'll see the orthopedist tomorrow to see if she remains splinted or will have to get a cast.

One drawback to being single is that you don't have anyone to help you to the bathroom. She has a friend coming to stay for a couple days, but she'll be pretty much on her own after that, unless she will telephone nearby friends if she gets in desperate straits. I live about 5 minutes away.

That's it for today.

Shalom

Oh boy! I'd be there for the cake alone if nothing else!! ;o)

Try swatching a bit first to see if you want to try the shawl. It isn't hard to do but did take some getting used to. Maybe do a small square inside of a mesh square, something easy. Once I got the counting down I was okay, but I did have to think about it at first.

    Dearest Chaya,

I am so sorry to read of your friend's accident! Oh dear! I hope she is not too badly hurt, and will make a speedy recovery! Poor lady! I am glad she has her friend to help her out, though.

Your birthday party plans sound exciting! I haven't had a proper birthday party for years. I wanted to have one last year on account of it being my admission to the Bar as a lawyer as well as my 26th birthday, but Murphy passed away and I was in no mood to have my meals regularly, let alone celebrate. There's nothing to celebrate when your best buddy isn't there :'o(

I might have a little celebration this year, though. Oh, I am so sorry I can't make it to the USA for your party this year, I know you would have wanted me to. But I will be there in spirit! Please wait by your mailbox because you will have to sign for certified airmail! Sent with love across the oceans!

    Lots and lots of Love,
    E.L.

ohhhhhh! to be there at your party! please make plans for getting some photos up in your diary (I can host them for you if you need me to).

Now I have a fantastic potato salad - a few years ago we were staying with my French Godmother, deep in the heart of France, near to Toulouse, so fab, she sits us on her fantastic sun-drenched patio all drowning in begonias and French-casual-chic, presents us with some aperitifs and then some fish with the most divine potato salad, and the secret ingredient was a couple of chopped up cloves of garlic, raw, mmmm mmmmm
