Got a wonderful package in the mail today. My dear, darling, blessed sister sent me some goodies from Harry & David. Now I know some of you haven't the foggiest about H&D, so I'll explain.
They ship fruit from their own orchards, and some orchards associated with the H&D enterprise. If you ever eat an H&D pear, you'll NEVER be satisfied with anything you buy in the markets. Sweet, juicy, and nary a bit of graininess. Mmmm. I swoon!
The pack was a threebie. Three six-packs of fruit. Apples (Delicious). Pears (not quite ripe enough yet. Need a couple more days). Oranges (which aren't on my list of favorite fruits, but when I opened the box, one of them was yelling at me EATME, EATME, EATME. And so I did.) The orange was unbelievably sweet. I had an apple snack while I was watching TV this evening. I can hardly wait for the pears to ripen.
With enough fruit around, I think I could get along without chocolate. Well...maybe not permanently.
H&D also have other goodies besides fruit. If this sounds like a really great idea for gift-giving, write Harry and David at P.O. Box 712, Medford, Oregon 97501 for a catalogue. I don't know if they ship overseas, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

And in other news: Friend Harry had a PET scan today to determine if his cancer has metastasized to the bones. Clean, no bone cancer. Just some arthritis. I think he can live with that. He does need prayers, though. For you who pray in the Jewish way, he's Herschel ben Pesach.
He irritates the h*** out of my sometimes, but he's really a nice guy, and I usually enjoy his company. Oh, well, I think any man is going to irritate me sometimes. Except, of course, my darling grandson. *big grin*

I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I gave my daughter money for her holiday gift. She's lost a lot of weight and really needs some new clothes. She came over the other day and showed off a very nice denim skirt and a long (tunic length) pullover knit blouse. She looked very pretty. She did confess to taking the family out to dinner, but that's ok, as she didn't feel like cooking that evening. And I figure a meal that she doesn't have to cook, and clean up after, is a proper use of gift money. Oh, yes, and she gleefully showed off her collar bones. Yes, she's lost enough weight that the under-structure is beginning to show.
Today was a good day, and I'm feeling very pleased.
Shalom
