Harry had a doctor's appointment yesterday (Friday) morning, so I did most of my Sabbath cooking on Thursday. Good thing, too. Sometimes I even do last minute shopping, but since I was already out Friday morning, I stopped and got my milk and challah, and dessert for the Sabbath meal (no time for baking).

I was supposed to pick up my granddaughter from school so she could spend the weekend with me. As I said, it was a good thing I had my shopping done. As I went out to the car to go to Rena's school, I saw I had a FLAT TIRE!! The tire wasn't flat when I came home, so I figure I must have run over something in the driveway.

Anyway, I called the school and asked them to take a message to Rena that grammie wasn't going to make it after all. Then called daughter and moaned about the flat (and I don't have roadside service on my auto insurance), and she agreed to bring granddaughter to me after work. Then, when I figured Rena had had time to get home, I telephoned her and told her not to unpack her bag, cuz Mom was going to bring her to me.

So when they arrived, Megan went to neighbor and asked him if he could put the spare on for me. That's something I haven't the strength to do. Since it was dark he said he'd do it tomorrow (today). So, he did come over this afternoon and put the spare on. Since it's Saturday, the Sabbath, and I don't drive on the Sabbath, and it wasn't a true emergency, I didn't go to the tire store. Which is just up the street a couple blocks. I'll phone in the morning and find out if they're open on Sunday. If not, I'll have to wait until Monday.

Which means, I'll have to call Allen and explain the problem, and promise to visit on Tuesday and bring Harry with me. Since Harry has another medical appointment on Tuesday, we may as well combine both visits. There's no way I'm going to drive the freeway with that dinky spare tire on the back wheel.

Why don't auto manufacturers include a regular sized tire as a spare? Oh, I know. Cheeeep!

So, Rena didn't get here in time for candle lighting, so I lit a candle for her. Megan fed her on the way here, so it's a good thing I went ahead and had dinner without her. I knew she'd be late, but I did expect to give her dinner. Oh, well, we had dinner together tonight.

Well, that's my weekend, so far.

Happy Holidays.

I'm glad to hear that you had a good weekend in spite of the flat tire. I agree about the stupid little *donuts* that they put in cars as spare tires now. They are awful! You'd think when even the cheapest of cars costs close to $20,000 now that the LEAST they could do would be to give them a decent spare. Sheesh!

    Dear Chaya
Ohhhh, how disappointing that must have been for you. And Rena too.
Well I am glad that you got some time with Rena.
How I wish someone would bring out a 'sensible' vehicle, one with no gimcracks, but integrity instead. Tsk tsk
    Shalom,
    Jenny

I'm with you on the regular sized spare tires. I hate those little pieces of crap that they give you now a days. It seems that the more advanced we get technology wise, the more we get ripped off, and the shoddy the product gets.

Oh no!!!! Too bad about the flat tire, Chaya! That really is unfortunate.
Poor Rena must have been disappointed. You must have been as well.
I'm glad the two of you still got to do dinner together!
    Take care!
    Love,
    E.L.
