I'll get back to Austin pretty soon, but in the meantime, let me tell you about a bad experience, and you female readers take note!!

I was shopping in the grocery store the other night, and got my purse snatched! Usually I tie my purse to the shopping cart with the ties on the baby seat provided on the shopping cart, but this time, one of the straps was stuck and I couldn't get it out....so....

I saw a couple "suspicious" looking kids and sort of checked them out, then went on about my business. Somehow one of them got behind me, and as I turned my head to check out a loaf of bread, he snatched my purse.

I screamed STOP HIM STOP HIM. HE'S GOT MY PURSE!!! and half the store took off chasing him. But there was a car waiting for him across the parking lot, and he got away. Let me tell you, that kid could run!!

A lady who hadn't gotten out of her car yet, tried to follow and get a plate number, but the car didn't have a license plate on the back. Bless her heart!! She tried. She gave me her card in case I needed a witness in the future.

While I was giving a report to the sheriff's deputy, two men came up to me and put money in my hand. I asked one man his name, and he said I didn't need to know that. The other man slipped his hand around the deputy and put a bill into my hand, then disappeared before I could so much as get Thank You out of my mouth.

There are some good people around.

Because of the generosity of these two people, I was able to get the toilet paper I had originally gone to the store for, and with cash I was able to fill my gas tank (which was next to empty).

I had to spend some time on the phone cancelling my ATM card, and a couple credit cards. The next day I had to go to the DMV and get a temporary license.

Later that evening, my daughter got a call saying my purse had been found in the company's dumpster. The next day I went to retrieve it, and everything was there, including my wallet (but of course it was empty of money); but my ATM card and my driver's license were missing. They (there were several in the car) left my address book with my daughter's phone number. So they called her and she called me.

I have not been able to get hold of a sheriff's deputy to report that my purse has been recovered. Nobody returns my calls. There are some things recovered that could have fingerprints on them, and if that punk has a record (juvenile, I'm sure), the cops might be able to find him and arrest him and his buddies in crime.

So ladies...DO NOT leave your purse in the shopping cart, and DO be conscious of everyone around you!

ON A LIGHTER NOTE....

My daughter gave me the nicest Mother's day gift. A pedicure with all the trimmings! Foot bath, massage, cuticles trimmed, toenails trimmed and shaped. and best of all MASSAGE!! Oh, it felt so good it almost hurt. I chose a bright, fire engine red polish for the toesies. After the polish was dry, I got a hot wax bath which left the skin of my feet feeling silky smooth.

Pure luxury!! Isn't she a nice daughter?

Shalom.

Oh dear! How AWFUL for you!
That must have been so upsetting. But wasn't that something that people gave you money??? That's just really wonderful. For every Punk, there must be a thousand good people. And you know, I do clip my purse to the cart.... most of the time.... but not always. I WILL be more careful now. I am so sorry this happened to you. . .

If they catch him, I will hold him while you whallop his behind. :-)

Yes she is...and Happy Mother's Day!!

I am so sorry about your purse getting snatched. Damn kids. I would like to kill several now after this fire. I hosed down my roof and think I am safe. The big Marine helicopters, with their bigger water scoops, were able to lay enough water down in front of the flames so they should not come farther down the hill now, but the fire is still going strong in other areas.

I'm so sorry about the purse-snatching experience. What a terrible thing to go through! Fortunately, you weren't physically hurt. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. Daughters are such a blessing!

    Happy Mothers' Day, dear Chaya!
That was a thoughtful gift your daughter got you. Especially with that recent stress after the purse snatching. I hate snatch thieves. People work hard to get what they have. Why do these little rotters never think about earning their own money? I'm so sorry it had to happen to you, but very glad you were not otherwise hurt. I know sometimes if the thieves get desperate they might attack or shove people. But it gladdens me to read of all those kind, caring people. That is such a good thing.
    Lots of love,
    E.L.

That was sweet of the people to give you some money. Also very lucky your purse was recovered! But still . . . it leaves you feeling violated. *sigh* I'm sorry you had to go through all that! I do hope they catch the person who did it.
