Utter Fatigue
Wed Jul 30 2003

The last two days have been hot and hectic. And I'm writing only so my DD friends know that I'm still alive. Barely.

As I've mentioned I have friends in assisted living, but the he of the pair has been in rehab. This is the first time they've been separated in the more than 50 years of marriage. Their move to a board and care was postponed because A developed a blister on his foot and the doctor wouldn't release him. His wife H is still in the assisted living facility. So after visiting the anticipated new home, and finding that they hadn't moved as scheduled, I ended up visiting them in their separate "homes."

There eldest (a daughter) is in town trying to fix up the homestead for selling, and granddaughter and I have been trying to help. As a result of our help, I have a car trunkload of books and no place to put them. Some of them will be going to the shul, but I still a whole bunch of 'em that are going to need a new home in the way of a bookcase. And where am I going to put another bookcase? But I couldn't turn down a windfall like that.

The outside of the apartment has been painted, and I had to remove everything from the patio. Hanging plants -- four of them. Patio table and chairs. Plant stand and all the plants thereon. And some other potted plants. Also took down the bamboo shades. Fortunately, granddaughter was here to help.

Today, everything had to go back. I guess the neighbors heard the vacuum cleaner while I was using it on the indoor-outdoor carpeting, so I got a lot of help putting things back.

Sad to say, after the two days that the hanging plants (spider plants) were in the sun, they look like they're going to need beaucoup TLC. I added tea leaves to help hold moisture in the soil while they're recovering. Those four hanging plants are all starts from the original plant.

Oh, yes, there was the asparagus plant too. Darn thing stabbed me while I was putting it back.

The head painter very kindly put my little fountain back in its corner, so I didn't have to move that. But before I could move the concrete bench back to its place, and the puppy with a basketfull of flowers hanging from his teeth (also concrete), I had to vacuum. So those articles didn't get in place until the neighbors (BLESS THEM!!!) helped move them back into place.

Too much breeze this evening, so tomorrow afternoon, the upstairs neighbor is going to rehang my bamboo shades. He's a nice young man.

I must say that the painters worked very efficiently, but it was odd having all the windows covered with paper. Seemed like twilight all day long. And I couldn't open my bedroom window last night.

Okay, that's it. I'm about to fall asleep on the keyboard. If I think of anything else, I'll write later.

Shalom.

Oh, yes, the outside of the apartment looks very nice! Now I need to work on the inside.

G'nite.

You are a sweetheart for helping your freinds when they need you. I am sure it is much appreciated. And hey . . . books . . . never can have too many books! I hope the spider plants recover, they are a favorite of mine. They seem to be quite sturdy and I am sure they will perk right up again. It's sad the two friends are still living separately. :-(

    hi chaya :)
there you are! thanks from all of us nosey dd'ers wondering where you've been (not really nosey ;)
i feel so sorry for that poor couple who have been separated for the first time in 50 years, my heart truly goes out to the both of them! here's hoping they are together again very very soon
as for your apartment, that sounds wonderful. have they painted it a different colour or is it the same as the old colour? i've never liked the smell of paint fumes and what-not, especially in places like bedrooms etc. here's hoping the fact you couldn't open any windows didn't mean you were roasting in the heat for a couple of days

    talk to you soon

Poor A and H, Chaya! They must feel rather lost without each other's constant companionship. I hope they'll get better and get to be together again soon.
Puppy with basket in mouth? What? Where?
    Love,

That is my biggest problem....books and book cases. I have books everywhere and no where to put them, and no room for another book case. We have a great breeze this morning, I hope it lasts for a while. I have friends in town and have been on the run for the last two days, and hopefully today will be my last as tour guide, for a while anyway.

Won't the local library take some of the book?

    Hi,
Glad to know you are ok, was wondering since I hadn't seen you about for a few days. That is a shame about your friends. Hopefully they will be settled in their new place soon. I am sure it is very hard on them being seperated.

Glad the outside is painted and things are getting back to 'normal'.....Your fountain sounds wonderful!

    Take Care,
    Bobbi
