And still more rain....
Thu Dec 30 2004

Got up at the gawdawful hour of 6 ayem to get Harry to an 8 o'clock appointment. I stumbled into the kitchen to start my tea, then to the bathroom for a wakeup shower. It worked. Mostly. Managed to get most of the pot of tea down, and that helped along with the shower. Managed a banana while I was dressing. Got him there with time to spare. He's going to have to have surgery on his infected eye to prevent further infections. But it won't have an deleterious effects on his vision.

Back home and had a couple pieces of toast before I headed for Schmoozers Circle. Better crowd than last week, and a couple people I've known for some time also showed up. I think they're occasional rather than regular.

I opened my mouth and stuck both feet in. Mentioned that I had been doing some yoga exercises and was invited to lead the exercise program. Will I EVER learn? We exercise our bodies, then we exercise our minds. The mind exercise was making as many 3- and 4-letter words out of STOCKING. My contribution was "sick" and "gin." Go ahead, see how many words you can come up with. You'll be surprised. But you don't need to confine yourself to 3- and 4-letter words.

I have a video of the National Parks in the US, with classical music background. There are some gorgeous places here. Some just sheer beauty, some beautiful in their barrenness. The film is 60 minutes, so we'll watch the last 30 minutes next week.

Then off to my Wednesday night gathering. We watched the movie I, Robot. I'm going to have to find my copy of the book so I can compare the original to the adaptation.

Since I didn't get my afternoon nap, I came home early. In the dark. In the rain. On a narrow, unlit road. With oncoming headlights. Fortunately, the road has a white line next to the shoulder, and I focused on that when cars were approaching. Almost went over the white line in one place.

Had phone message from granddaughter wanting to know how long I wanted her to stay when her Mom delivers her tomorrow. How about a week?

Next Megan asked me to do some computer research on California educational standards. Yes, Virginia, there are educational standards in California. Math, science, history and English used up quite a bit of my printer paper. The reason for all this? If Rena doesn't get into the charter school, then Megan plans to home school her and needs the standards. Couldn't find a thing on recommended textbooks. There was some other stuff she wanted info, on which I drew a blank. I'll keep looking. But not tonight.

I hear my bed calling.

Shalom

I think the school districts usually provide an opportunity for home schooling. I know it does here, as does the Charter Academy. Sometimes they will even loan books, just like they do for in-school students. Your county or local school boards might even have web pages for you to peruse.

Yep I agree with the above commenter, you can call the local school admin too. They should point you in the right direction. I think they provide the books too. RAIN is a pain to drive in at night. I am not the best night driver myself with my right eye acting up. I wish Harry well on his surgery. YOGA? I have a couple DVD's with a couple yoga sessions on them if you want a copy of them, and I have a short (maybe 30 minute) video of Kauai by air, if you are interested in a copy. Let me know, I would be more than happy to send you a copy.

I think the rain comes up here when it leaves you, and becomes snow.. It has warmed up enough that I know snow is coming
I am proud of you for leading your group with yoga exercises. I bet many needed it. The stretches are so great. The trick is to breath into the postures.

About the home-schooling; when I had Kody, before the private charter deal... I got the curriculum from the Utah school board.
There are also gobs of home-school groups on the Internet. It seems to be growing leaps and bounds. (try an internet search in your area) I will never attempt it again. Although it really wasn't too bad. I think Kody was more willing to study back then. He seems unable to do that now. I am having a struggle with him reading during this winter break. I tell him for the amount of time he plays his video games he has to read. What a war zone..
    Oh well
Now that I've taken up more space than you did
    happy 2005!
