The first day
Wed May 18 2005

This is the first day of my lo-carb diet. My daughter has lost about 75 pounds on the diet, and I'm going to try it. I gave away all my pasta, but later came across two packages of Newton-style bars. One bar has 17 grams of carbohydrate, and that's not the "good" carb. I thought I might peel away the pastry part, but no, it's the filling that has the "bad" carb. Five grams of sugar in one bar. Oy!

Anyway, Megan went shopping with me, and we talked about what I'd better not put in the shopping cart, or she'll hurt me.

I stocked up on fruit, but I know there's a chocolate bar out there that's going to start hollering at me.

At least I can have my morning bagel, but will have to pass up the grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.

I have enough brown rice to last quite a while, and I cooked up a huge pot of beans. I'll have to baggie meal portions and freeze them because there's no way I'm going to eat that pot of beans day after day after day.

Plenty of veggies, but I have to remember to cook them.

I guess I'll be doing more cooking from now on.

I did eat a bit of chicken in some won ton soup today, but a bit was all I could manage. So, it doesn't seem that I'll be adding meat of any kind. I'll be doing some research in my Diet & Nutrition textbook and try to come up with an interesting meal plan that doesn't take a whole lot of planning.

Oops, I forgot the broccoli.

And in other news: the weather is lousy. Are we ever going to have a true spring? I wonder if summer is going to drop on us like a ton of bricks. One day drizzly, windy, cloudy, coolish (yeah, I finally in desperation turned on the heater. I was cold!) the next day triple digits.

Sis tells me that Tucson is already seeing triple digits. I'd like to exchange a little wet there for a little warm here.

Oh, yes, and I started on 325 mgs of ferrous sulfate twice a day. That's going to constipate me, so I'd better have plenty of cabbage on hand. Looks like another trip to the store. Doctor says bringing up my hemoglobin a bit might make me feel perkier.

And on that note, I just about dislocated my jaw yawning, so I'm off to bed.

G'nite and Shalom!

Good luck on it! I lost a lot of weight while I was on it, but the kids wouldn't eat any of the meals I was cooking so I went off of it and gained back everything I lost.
I guess I'll have to wait to diet until they are out of the house!

as for weather, it was positively spring-like up in my city today. i feel for the flood victims but the bad weather from down there hasn't reached us yet, thats for sure, and the temps are positively balmy again for autumn!

wow 75 pounds is a lot to lose! How many grams of carbs are you meant to eat a day then on this diet if one bar is 17g? Good luck with it.

The weather is really lousy here too, I am sick of it. I have been trying not to click the heating on because I think if you have to put on the heating in May things are bad! The sky outside the window is grey and the whole feel is miserable, even the Spring flowers look like they're struggling!

A big tray of roasted mixed vegetables is what I do to try and boost my veggie intake and it's really easy just shove em in and leave em.
