Do you get tired of hearing about my aches and pains? Well, I get tired of dealing with them. But I suppose there's someone out there who cares what came of my visit to my doctor on Monday. This is Wednesday, so you see how eager I am to report all?
Anyway. Since this is the second a-fib, there'll probably be another, and maybe another. Who knows. But the order of the day is to prevent blood clots from forming in my heart and going to my brain. With each occurrence of irregular heartbeat, there's an ever-growing chance of a clot forming.
So I'm on warfarin (coumadin) now. Small dose for now, and I'll get a blood test each Friday until my doctor decides we can go for a month. I'll have to be careful around knives and cat scratches, I guess, as the blood will flow more freely than before.
Oh, and you should see the bruises I acquired in the hospital!! A huge one on the back of my left arm. Took an anti-coagulant there instead of the abdomen. Should have listened to the nurse when she advised the ab, but it kind of grossed me out. So what's a little gross compared to a bruise on the arm that measures 4.5"x3.75" as opposed to the 1.5"x.5" on the llqab?
And the Atenolol for regulating the heartbeat has been increased to twice a day.
OK, enough of that.
Back to picking up my girls from school. Caitlin, the older girl, did something she shouldn't have (I declined to hear the details) and got no-swimming-for-a-week punishment. Turns out the younger one, Nicole, has decided it isn't any fun swimming alone, so I guess you would say she's sharing the punishment. We went to the pool, anyway, yesterday because Mom said Caitlin could dangle her feet in the water. But we came back earlier than usual because dangling isn't as much fun as swimming.
Both girls are picky eaters, and keeping healthy snacks that they will actually eat is a challenge. Don't care for raw veggies, and very few of them cooked. Don't like oatmeal, so the cookies are getting the bye. And apples are like eh. Pringles chips are another thing, though. Bananas are good. Tuna is ok with one but not the other. Cheese is good with both. So I need to go to the store and stock up on the Pringles and bananas.
The girls are really no problem for a couple hours, but I don't know how I'm going to handle all day when school is out and Mom still has to go to the office.
Stay tuned.
Another hot day, but a cooling trend is in the offing. And not a day too soon. The sky is sullen with smoke from the fires in the next county. The air quality is way up there in the "Unhealthy for sensitive groups." Just ooch it up another notch, and it'll be unhealthy for everybody. One thing to say for winter: the chance for wildfires is very low.
OK, that's the babble for today.
Shalom

P - From:Welshamethyst (Legacy)On:Wed Sep 13 2006I'm assuming he did give you the dietary restrictions chart for warfarin???? If not, let me know and I'll find one for you.
- From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Thu Sep 14 2006Would they eat apples with caramel dip? Or even, make caramel apples when they first get out of school, then let them cool in the fridge while homework is done and have as a post-homework treat? You can buy "sheets" of caramel that you just wrap around the apple then warm up to create caramel apples, fast and easy!
What about popcorn? That is a favorite snack around here. #3's favorite is "ants on a log". Smear peanut butter on a celery stick, and sprinkle with raisins. Quesadillas is another favorite for my kids you might try with the girls. Quick and easy in the microwave.
Hope all goes well and you do stay fire-free until wet weather comes around!
Alli - From:CovertOps (Legacy)On:Thu Sep 14 2006Dear Chaya,
You are my dear friend -- how could you even for a moment think that I would not be interested in your health and well-being?
I truly sympathise about your aches and pains and I wish I could do something constructive to help ease your pain. I would have opted for a jab in the abdomen. My poor dear Chaya! I send you hugs and healing vibes and I hope your bruise subsides soon.
As for poor air quality, many Southeast Asian countries have now set up early warning and prevention systems for forest fires and transboundary haze. We even have websites where we could check the air pollution index. When you get people worried enough about their health, they will start showing concern for the environment. Selfish but true.
Your girls sound quite a handful. I would not give in where Pringles chips are concerned. You should not buckle in to pressure, but could try to offer them healthier alternatives like corn chips and baked munchies instead.
As for my e-mails to you, they are still being blocked. The problem could be with my Intranet system and not with ATT at all.
Please get well soon.
Lots of Love,
E.L. - From:AnneOakley (Legacy)On:Thu Sep 14 2006I'm soooo addicted to Pringles and I will not share with!!! LOL.
Get to feel better as soon as possible.

Hugs, Deb - From:ImNotLisa (Legacy)On:Fri Sep 15 2006I too am glad to hear of your doctor's appointment and how it went. We have plenty of patients coming in every day to check their blood levels as you have to do; those patients are kind of fun because we get to know them pretty well from the frequent visits. I hope things get better for you soon.
- From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Sat Sep 16 2006I'll join your underground! What you described is what I think many people who do not wish to be actively fighting see themselves doing in a situation such as I described.
