Clean-up
Fri Feb 08 2008

I cleaned my keyboard. I took a plastic card and ran it through the spaces between the keys, horizontally and vertically. Unbelievable the dust and CAT hairs that came up!!! And then I did it again. Tch! My housekeeping could be a whole lot better.

Then I took a damp paper towel and scrubbed the keys. Then took a slightly dampened Q-tip in alcohol and did some further scrubbing.  Some of the keys still have letters and numbers printed on them. How 'bout that?!

Because of all the cat hairs, I determined that I probably ought to cover the keyboard when not in use. And that brings up another thought: what are the cats doing with my keyboard when I'm not looking???  Is there, maybe, a Catty Dear Diary?

I've seen a plastic cover shaped like the keys, and it fits over the keyboard so that one can still type. It's used in hyper-sanitary places like laboratories. I haven't seen it in use in other places, but I wonder if such covers are available to other than labs. Anyone know?

Anyway, I put a linen towel over the keyboard, and I will try to remember to clean it more often.  It would be easier if I could just find the little keyboard vacuum that is in this mess somewhere!

Bless

I bet you could find them in any office supply store. I should get one, too. My keyboard could use a good scrubbing. Ick.

I just checked "Staples" on-line and they have them for $21.99. We might be able to find them at Wal-Mart for cheaper. I'll try to remember to check it out when I go there tomorrow and let you know.

I see the covers in garages and Fast oil changes, but I use canned Air and if you have dustbunny's and Cat hair the canned air does the same for your computer tower if you turn off the power and remove the side plate!! Most all repair computer shops do this first off and your tower fans really do better running COOL tower.
Placing a tower on floor is not good for it really draws in the dust.

I've tried the keyboard covers and personally I detest them because to me it makes things feel mushy and I spend more time watching the keyboard to make sure I'm hitting the right letters than I actually do typing. My suggestion would be to go to BestBuy and tell someone in the computer area that you want to try a cover before you buy one (they have computers already set up so you can "test drive" them before you buy). I can't imagine why they wouldn't let you give it a go!

A better way to get the dust and cat hair out of it is with a can of air. As for a keyboard cover, try a large shower cap.
    Enjoy!

I checked our Wal-Mart and they don't carry the keyboard dustcovers, but we have a pretty small store. You might want to call your's and see if they do.
    Good luck.

Just playing catch-up with your diary, but this entry reminds me of our first night with several kittens in the house. I forgot to put the lid down on the piano and found myself bolt upright in the middle of the night, freaked out of deep sleep by the cacophony coming from just the other side of the wall. I did not make that mistake again!

RYC: I amaze you? How come?

    Love and hugs,
    Ani

PS Did some online looking, and the keyboard covers are available from many sellers there. It's startling to see what they cost, to me. Makes your dish towel solution look really good!
