Missy
Thu Feb 28 2008

Missy got her nails cut today.  She was shredding my skin every time she wanted up on my shoulders.  It was easier when I helped her up, but sometimes she'd jump on me when I wasn't expecting her.  OWOWOWOW!  I need a leather pad across my shoulders.

I usually bring the cat carrier into the entryway a day or so before a trip. Just to get the cats used to the carrier being there. Banshee isn't fooled.  I put the carrier down on the floor and opened the door.  Missy started snooping inside the carrier, so I gave her a little shove and closed and locked the door.  Not a sound from her.

All was quiet until I put the carrier in the car. Hadn't even started the car. Just put her in the carrier in the car.  And she didn't shut up the whole way to the Vet's office. She mewed, she meowed, she squalled. The who-o-o-l-l-l way.  She didn't shut up for one minute.  Then when I took her out of the car and into the Vet's office, she cut loose. She HOWLED, a pure Siamese howl. I put the carrier on a bench and she subsided to a mere squall.  Another cat-owned person waiting there commented, "A Siamese."

In a few minutes one of the techs came and got Missy in her carrier, and I didn't hear another sound out of her. I know how it goes. The cats aren't afraid of me, but they're intimidated by the surroundings at the Vet's office. So they don't struggle when they get their nails clipped or when they get their shots, or when a thermometer is stuck up their rear.  So the nail clipping goes without a hitch.

The little pig lacks three ounces of being nine pounds. The 24/7 cafeteria is now closed.

So the technician brought her back, in the carrier, with a note attached: Beautiful Girl! She is, but she's still a brat!  I can't let her nails go until her next annual exam, when the clips would be free, but I can't afford $22.56 a month to keep her nails clipped.

I tried wrapping Missy in a towel the last time I tried to clip her nails. She squirmed out. My sister suggested a zipper bag. I think I'll try that.  Put the whole cat in the bag with one leg sticking out.  But how will I put that leg back in and pull out another one without losing a hand? Or a severely damaged hand. I'll have to find some way, or live with a chronically punctured shoulder skin.  I wonder how much a leather shawl would cost?

I should mention that when we got home, and Missy shot out of the carrier, she became very loving, kissy-kissy. That was a total surprise. Usually she ignores me for several hours when she's been displeased.  I just don't get that cat!

Bless

Missy sounds like a good cat even though she does scratch
