Marian Update #2
Thu Dec 24 2009

She did go home. For a few hours. Then found out that she couldn't afford the co-pay on the antibiotic she's on. As long as she's in the facility, her plan pays for the med, but as soon as she's home, she has a co-pay. In this case $1,000--yes, you read that right ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS--a month.

Of all the cockamamie places she could be. . .  She went from Thursday to Tuesday without a shower. She sat for one hour in the physical therapy room, waiting for a PTherapist. When she announced she'd been there for an hour and was going back to her room now, one of the dimbulbs said "Oh, I didn't know you were my patient."

The only thing that ever happens there on schedule is the meals. Looks like Marian and her son will be having Christmas dinner there. Or maybe she can get a day pass and they'll go to a restaurant. However, the guest charge for meals is more than reasonable. Dinner would be $3.00, and I defy you to find a decent meal anywhere at that price.

So Merry Ho Ho Everybody.

When we had Thanksgiving dinner at the convalescent hospital with Nana one year, it was about the same price (12-ish years ago) and it was actually GOOD! We got turkey breast slices, dressing, mashed potatoes, a little piece of candied yam, a little sauce cup of cranberry sauce, some broccoli and a small piece of pumpkin pie. The portions of side dishes were small, but there were a lot of side dishes so we didn't care. We finished our dinners satisfied, but not stuffed to the gills. It was actually nice. It was nice to know there was a turkey in the oven at home though. I can't get enough of real turkey sandwiches.

I can not understand the prices of medications these days.. I see my doc on monday and I'm giving him one more chance to treat me. If he can't come to my way of seeing things, I'm going to take my file and find a new clinic.. I have just had it up to here.....
my ribs are healing but ever so slowly. I will get an xray Monday also, just to back up my claim with this stupid condo,... I have told them I will get a lawyer if something isn't done with the ice.. It is all their fault.. the raingutters go into a huge pipe.. two pipes actually that go right under my car.. It is a spot i pay for.. and this just is totally unsafe.. no way will I suffer another fall coz they are so stupid and incapable of at least giving me ice melt or putting in a proper drain ... Oh ...
    I do go on..
hope your day is a beautiful one and happy new year- 2010 almost here.. I can't believe it.. I'll be 60 this coming year!!!

Ouch! How expensive, unfair and inconvenient! Why is Marian being punished? For being a senior citizen? :o(

Seasons Greetings, dear Chaya and family!

How are you doing? How is Marian? I have heard that so often about nursing homes, and also about prescription meds. I see it every day in my job. It is an awful situation. Tell me we don't need health care reform. *sigh*
I hope you are well and happy.
