THURSDAY
Saw the ophthalmologist (in Folsom, 1/2-hour drive by freeway) for my annual check-up. Lenses good for another year. That makes six years for these lenses. Pretty good, eh? But couldn't leave the office right away as my pupils were still quite dilated and my vision blurry. So I sat in the car for awhile, with dark glasses, until I could see a little better and my eyes didn't hurt from the sun--even with dark glasses.
Shopped at Wal-Mart, but got out of the store without the item I went there for. I'm good at that. Even with a list I manage to forget something. But, if I remember later, I go to the store in my neighborhood.
Back to my neighborhood, Emigh's (pronounced Amy's) Hardware. Got some keys made and stocked up on my favorite lollipops. Yep, lollies in a hardware store. Tried the root beer flavor and was disappointed. More cinnamon-y than root beer-y. But Key Lime is wonderful! The marshmallow actually tastes like marshmallow. Several other flavors to try, but I'll always stock up on the Key Lime and the butter toffee flavors.
Went grocery shopping, and had time for a little nap before chat-time with my sister.
Class at the shul in the evening, but a different program this time. BBQ first, then a farbrengen with rabbis from all over Northern California. I came home before it was over, because those things can last until the wee hours, and I was tired.
FRIDAY
Not quite so busy, but had trouble finding an upholstery shop that I had gone to on Wednesday (they were closed). Anyway, after charging up and down the street, I finally found the shop (I'm directionally challenged). Got the stuff I wanted but in the course of the transaction, discovered the owner of the shop spent some time in Texas, in the Air Force. So, of course, we had to reminisce about Texas. He had a model of a 3-masted schooner on display. Would love to own the real thing.
Then had to go back to the grocery store for what I forgot on Thursday. Did some wandering in cyberspace, then took a nap. When I came back the puter wouldn't come on. It would try to boot, but couldn't get past the initial screen. I could play the CDs, but couldn't do anything else. Waaahhh!!!
Had to get ready for Shabbat, so gave up on the puter. Just before time to light candles, decided to try one....more.....time. IT WORKED! But by then I didn't have time to read or write.
SATURDAY
Went to shul, but left almost immediately after the service began. Children being noisy and disruptive and no one doing anything about quieting them. This has been going on for some time now, and I'm going to have a serious talk with the rabbi about the disruption, the disrespect and the annoyance of children misbehaving. No other synagogue I've ever gone to has allowed children to be disruptive, and I don't understand why it's happening in the synagogue I love.
I'm done complaining.
Had a call from my daughter, just to chat. I like that. Maybe she'll come by Wednesday or Thursday (her weekend) for a visit. We did talk about preparation for the winter rains now that she's working a site that has no shelter. When she's making her rounds, she's gonna get WET. NMP, but I did think I ought to bring it up. Mothers never quite let go of trying to take care of their kids.
So now I'm trying to catch up on the mail that I couldn't get to on Friday when the puter was taking a nap. I'm reading, but not leaving comments. But I'm reading!
So, I think I'll close this and go read some more diaries.
