Leisure League
Mon Jan 07 2008

Forgot to report on the monthly gathering called Leisure League Luncheon.

The food and the company were great, as usual.  Some people go to the luncheon only at their own synagogue; others, like me, sample the offerings of all four.

This month's offering wasn't all that great. Sounded wonderful on the flyer. Songs from Broadway.  Four singers: 2 sopranos, 2 tenors. One of the tenors accompanied himself and the other singers on the piano:  #1.

The piano tended to drown out the voices, especially the tenor accompanying himself.   #2.

The singers seemed intent on displaying their voices, rather than interpreting the songs.   #3.

The older woman  sang "I Get A Kick Out Of You."  That song says Sinatra loud and clear, and I just can't stand hearing a woman singing it.  And that one just sang.  No interpretation. She didn't even emphasize the "kick"!   #4.

The other tenor was singing love songs to the younger soprano. Well, that's what he was supposed to be doing. What he was doing was singing to the audience, with an occasional smirk at the young soprano.  He had a nice enough voice, but Pavarotti he wasn't.   #5.

The ending number was fi-i-i-i-ne! That tenor and the young soprano did "The Lady in Red." She was dressed in red, and they did a mini-tango.  That one was good.

My dear friend informed me that she will be moving to the Seattle area. Probably in March.    She's 92, in excellent health, does Tai Chi, and ballroom dancing, has a great figure. But her sons have convinced her that it's time that she be nearer them.  And her daughters-in-law are in accord. I suppose they're right, but I'm going to miss her.  I miss her already. She has promised that I can pick out one of her paintings and bring it home.  It will be prominently displayed. I think I want the ballerina.  But I'll let you know.

Bless

Heck, I can't do tai chi at age 37 *rolls eyes*

Sorry the entertainment wasn't up to par but I'm sure it was still nice to see and talk to everyone.

    Hugs

Tell her to be ready for the rain! The running joke is that we have a rain festival here that runs from January 1 to December 31!

    Dear Chaya,

Yes, the ballerina would be a good choice. Since she dances, it would make a good reminder of her. People come and go from our lives, and I share your sorrow, Chaya. But we must be happy for her and wish her well. After all, her children want her nearby. That's something highly positive.

Maybe next month's Leisure League offering would be better. No, I can't imagine a woman singing "I get a kick out of you", either.

    Love,
    E.L.

I left all my friends when I moved here. I miss them all so much, but I am making new ones. I know that is the opposite for you, that you are being left.
Phone calls and e-mails. Not the same, but they
    help a little.
    Hugs, Tiggs
