How did I do it?
Sun Jun 29 2003

Now I'm retired, my house is a mess, there's laundry to be done, letters to write, and all kinds of things that I just can't seen to get around to.

How come my place was always so neat when I was working? How come I'm such a slob now? Right now, as I type this, there's a stack of papers that need to be put away. And if they're not put away pretty soon, they'll end up on the floor. This pc desk is sitting next to a cupboard with a junk drawer, the drawer is open and full almost to overflowing. Why don't I clean it out and arrange things so I can find them when I want them?

Oh, my pantry. Every day I promise myself I'll get that pantry cleaned out and arranged. And I'd better do it, too, because I have to move this that and the other thing to get to the jar bottle carton whatever it is I'm looking for. I know where the cat food is because it's on the floor, and that's the best I can do about the pantry right now.

My bedroom is a shambles. My sewing machine is in there and the mending is piling up to the point of overflow. I keep a corner of closet available for stuff that needs mending, and there's no more room. I think it has been at least a year since my daughter gave me a sheet to mend. (She doesn't have a sewing machine.)

When my granddaughter went back home, I had her strip her bed so I could have fresh sheets on her bed when she returns. The sheets are still in the laundry hamper and the blankets and pillows are still piled up on her bed.

The venetian blinds--which I hate--are filthy to the point that mere dusting won't work. I'll have to get a cleaning solution and a bunch of rags to get them clean. When? Oh, one of these days.

I started cleaning out my file cabinet of out-of-date stuff to put through the shredder. Know what? The stuff is still waiting by the shredder.

I want to sell my organ so I'll have a place to set up my easel. But first I have to put an ad in the paper, and hope somebody wants a Hammond model A-105. I have a painting of Mt. Hood that needs finishing, and I will finish it as soon as I get the organ out of the way and have a place to set up my easel.

Oh, I guess I just go to bed. Maybe tomorrow I'll mop the kitchen floor and get rid of that sticky place that I always manage to get stand on when I reach for something in the far cupboard.

G-nite all.

    hehe

perhaps you've learnt that there are more important things to worry about than how spic and span a living space is?
perhaps you've spent your entire life cleaning up after other people that now its your own pad and there's nobody else making a mess for you, you can simply relax and let life live itself?

I can so relate to this entry right down to the sticky spot on the kitchen floor.
If I can just get the laundry caught up today I will be so happy.

Man if that isn't true. I am getting in the same boat. I sit here at my computer surrounded by stacks of book and piles of paper. I did get a few shoe boxes of old records sorted out this week, and the canned food in the cupboards reorganized, but I have much left to do around here. I guess it is a combination of things that happen when we retire. We sorta take off our packs, relax, and figure that there is no hurry. Tomorrow is another day. Unfortunately we get in the habit of letting too many tomorrows pass and then it becomes a huge task. I guess we do slow down a little too huh.

Aww, cut yourself some slack, Chaya. Say, you know what, if we live closer to each other, I'd offer to come and clean for you. In return for Hebrew and Yiddish lessons.
    LOL!
    Love ya!
