Mold
Tue Jan 15 2008

Yep, I have it. In my bedroom. Bottom half of the south facing wall. And a wee bit into the closet.  Living room clear. Back bedroom clear.  I'm wondering if the mold maybe has been responsible for my asthma/bronchitis/laryngitis.

Guys are coming tomorrow (I hope tomorrow) to take the wallboard down and replace it all. Oh, I just had a thought (danger!) -- I hope they thoroughly de-mold the inside of the outside wall.

Guess I'll be sleeping in the recliner for another few nights. Once the infected wall comes down, new, clean sheetrock gets put up.  It has to be primed, then painted. Then the window left open to get rid of the smell. I'm thinking Sunday night my bed will host me again.  I bought some surgical masks today. Don't go back in the bedroom without a mask on.

The carpet is damp a few inches from the wall. Wonder if I can get a professional carpet cleaning in there.

I have been not exactly sick for several weeks. A little under the weather, then sick with the bronchitis a couple weeks, then walking around bronchitis the next couple weeks. So I have no energy. So I don't feel like cleaning. Or picking up. Or. Or. As a result, I'm living amid chaos. Anybody know a good fairy who will come along and wave her magic wand?

I can't even run my vacuum cleaner without feeling breathless and wobbly.

Overdid it with errands, again, today. Oh! but it felt so good to be out in the chilly air with the warm sunshine.

But now I'm sleep-typing, so I'll say goodnight.

Bless

Action I see you have acted on the problem. It will be a blessing if helps clean up your lungs.
You said you had some moisture by your wall heater so have that checked also new insulation on that south wall for sure.
Did the Landlord step up to fix problem.?? One other thought do you have insurance personal property for some cover things like this..

It might be part of the problem. Mold can be a nasty thing.
I'm glad they are fixing the problem.

I'm glad they're doing something but I'm not sure the proper steps are being taken. I'll drop you an e-mail outlining what they should be doing then you can call me if you have questions.

To half answer Dustbunny's question, mold isn't a covered loss under insurance, either personal property or structure coverage, unless it is the result of water being pumped into a place due to a fire. It's never covered as a result of a water loss because it's considered a maintenance issue.

    Anyway, look for my e-mail

That mold could very well be part of your problem.. it plays holy heck on the lungs and bronchial system.. you have them clean the carpet too!!! you have every right to a SAFE place to live
I would be the one asking for a motel while my place was being fixed up.. You could force that issue too!! I mean .. you are sick!!
    please be careful!!

They asked me to sign a waiver about mold when I moved in here and I refused.. they didn't seem to care.. but it was odd.. and I think you can claim loss due to mold.. when the place wasn't properly sealed or the windows don't fit and allow water damage.. Anyway you have them on the water damage at any rate... *(could differ from state to state also) I better look into my insurance policy..
so.. glad you got some response from management.
