Seasonal musings
Wed Dec 25 2002

I've been listening to Christmas music the last three days. Because that's all that's on my favorite radio station. But that's OK, I like the carols, and even though I don't necessarily listen to the words, I like the music. It's so joyous sounding.
However, I do know the words to most of the carols because I've heard them all my life. Besides, I was in a Community College Chorale group for several years, and every Christmas we did a beautiful chorale presentation for the public. Oh, come all ye faithful...I can't remember the words in English because I first learned this one in Latin: Adeste Fidelis.
Well, I don't sing much any more after several bouts with bronchitis and laryngitis. The voice and the range are mostly gone. But I hum a lot.
Now, at 10:30pm on 24 December, there's a combination story and songs going on. I haven't a clue as to what the story is (see previous diary, "Eh? What's that?" But I like the music, so the radio is on.

Watched the Nutcracker on PBS this evening. It was performed by the Royal Ballet at Covent Gardens. It was quite different from the presentation last year, by the Kirov Ballet as I recall. The sets were gorgeous. I wish the credits wouldn't roll so fast. I was trying to find out who certain dancers were, but my eyes don't roll that fast.
The orchestra director had a different interpretation of some parts of the music. It seemed to me to be more staccato rather than flowing in some places than I'm accustomed to hearing. But it did seem to be more in keeping with the movement on the stage. Hmmmm.
I don't believe my cat is much of a TV fan, ballet or no, but she does keep my lap warm.
My eyes are telling me it's bedtime, so before I fall face first on the keyboard, I wish all of you a joyous end of the year. Hope Year 2003 brings happiness and prosperity. But most of all PEACE. Shalom!
