Time out of sync
Wed Jul 14 2004

Today as I was travelling one of the busy streets here in Sacramento, I saw something unusual. An orange and black California license plate. Our plates haven't been that color in so long I can't remember when. Anyway, when I got close enough to read, I could see that the plate was issued in 1934.

The plate was attached to a beautifully maintained Chevrolet pickup, with some latter day appurtenances. Such as chrome rear bumper, all nice and shiny, and fancy hubs on the wheels. Even the blue paint looked new, but the truck was definitely not a 2004 model.

The driver was talking on a cell phone.

Shalom

How very strange and surreal that must have seemed! I have some idea of when the license plates changed from black with gold/orange lettering to blue with gold/orange lettering. My first car whas a 1961 Chevy pickup and had the older black plates. My grandparents bought a new car in 1969 and it had blue plates. My step-brother had a 1965 Mustang, and IT had black plates. So I can assume the license plates changed between 1966 and 1969. Not that it helps a whole lot. :-s

There is a lot to be said for old pickups that have had a face lift and make up. A person can acutaly work on the sweet thing . The spark plugs are even in sight and things are simple .
I know us old folks have a sound mind but our bodies wear out , but now they can replace moat of our parts and we still waltz to the old music.
