Second day of Chanukah.
Yesterday, before I lit my Shabbat candles, I lit one Chanukah candle, and opened box #1 of the gift box from my son.
One luscious pear.
After Havadalah this evening (the closing of Sabbath, and returning to the mundane), I lit two candles. And opened box #2. To die for, melt-in-your-mouth milk chocolate stars. So rich, I actually had to leave four of them for another time. This is a dedicated chocoholic talking here! These are 3-4 times the size of Hershey Kisses, just to give you an idea.
Hershey may have been in business 100+ years, but H&D really know chocolate!!!
I think tomorrow night is another pear.

I walked to shul this morning, as usual on Saturday. My face got cold!
I have a "fur"-lined coat, with a hood, and found some gloves, so I was mostly warm, but my face had no protection against the cold except a thin layer of make-up foundation. Not much insulation there. And my nose runs in the cold.
I went out walking around the parking lot about 10pm this evening, and it seemed warmer than it was this morning. Now how does that work? After sundown is supposed to be cooler than after sunup, isn't it?
I need some suggestions. Missy has decided that she wants a run outdoors. No matter how carefully and quickly I come and go, she manages to streak out the door, and I have to chase her down. She doesn't do it all the time. Just when I'm in and almost have the door closed, she shows up (from where I dunno, she was nowhere in sight a nanosecond ago) and flashes out the door.
I can usually keep her at bay when I go out by shoving the broom in her face. But coming back in the house is another matter. Yesterday morning I thought she was sound asleep on my bed, but when I opened the door and leaned down to get the morning paper--whoosh! she was already in the next door patio before I straightened up.
Miss Cat has an appointment next week to be spayed. I'll probably have a couple days when she's not quite so active and not quite so fast out the door. But I'm on my guard after that.
Banshee is willing to be an indoor cat. Why must Missy be adventurous?
BRAT!!

- From:Calichef (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 17 2006Just like the boys, the girls are less apt to go traveling once they have their little kitten makers removed. Hopefully, that takes care of the problem.
If not, I'll bet we can rig a second line of defence with some PVC pipe and either cheap sheer curtains or some netting from the fabric store. I'm thinking just a simple three sided thing that you could easily pull around you when you go in. It would probably only slow her down, but that would be enough, I think. Of course, it wouldn't be much harder to make a real cage out of it, which both cats would probably enjoy in warmer weather.
Love,

P.S. I'm totally excited about Monday! We can't wait to see you! Oh, one thing... Will the girls and their mother be joining us for our dinner? If so, I'll pick up a couple of extra cans of tuna, no problem. - From:Camomille (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 17 2006Happy Chanukah! Pears and chocolate, what could be better than that?
About the cat . . . no advice there! I know what you mean as I struggle with that one myself. Those cats are fast! - From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 17 2006Try enlisting a friend's help to discourage Missy. Have the friend stand outside the door with spray bottles or a large squirt gun. When you open the door and she tries to run out, have said friend douse her with the water-weapon of choice. After a few times doing this she may find it less than desireable to try and make a break for it.
Alli - From:Yetzirah (Legacy)On:Sun Dec 17 2006Me, I'd let her out.
She'll come back.
But that's just me.
