More Pasadena (contd.)
Tue Jun 10 2003

There are two girls, good buddies, in my husband's Sophomore Social Studies class who are exceptionally bright, pretty girls, popular, and polite, of course. This is Texas, y'know. Stan has issued an open invitation to his class to see him after school, call him at home, or even come visit. Yes, we agreed on this beforehand.

These two girls decided it was a nice idea, especially when they found out I was pregnant. They could hardly wait for the new baby so they could baby sit. Well, more about that later.

The pregnancy is going well. None of that awful morning sickness that I had with the first one. I couldn't even get my head off the pillow without being overwhelmed with nausea. This time, only faintly until I could get some food in my stomach, so I kept some crackers by the bedside.

Stevie is all excited about his little sister, and we keep telling him it's not a sure thing. It could very well be a brother. But, no, he wouldn't hear of it. It was going to be a sister. Without consulting Stevie, Stan and I did agree that we should have a boy's name picked out, just in case.

I continued my little volunteer job, as mentioned before, kept myself healthy, and enjoyed the company of Rosalie and Kathy. Didn't have to think much about a layette because I still had a lot of stuff saved from when Stevie was born. This one is due in January, which will be almost five years between the two children.

A girl baby would be a problem. We had a three bedroom home, and one of the bedrooms was already Stan's study. Which he needed, so it couldn't be converted to a nursery, or a girl child's room eventually. The baby would be in a crib in our bedroom for several months because I planned to nurse, and it wouldn't have been practical to have him/her in another room. Stevie already has bunk beds in his room. So, Ok, I won't think about that for awhile.

So, I'll end here. For now. I won't spoil the end of the story since it's still a few months away.

Shalom.

    Dear Chaya,
How lovely about the girls. My parents can't help but have certain favorite students as well. Sometimes you can't help but like them -- they are considerate, helpful, polite, well-liked and they do their work.
Can't wait to read the next installment.
Tee hee, Stevie must have been an angel of a boy.
    Love,
    E.L.

thanks for the comment on the funeral
it was truly a striking event, one which will live on in my memories as, like you, i'd never attended a funeral with such beautiful balance. most have been overflowing with grief, i know the times i've had to farewell people from this life it was nowhere near the experience that this family shared
i was amazed and truly touched by their open show of affection, love, gratitude, their smiles and tears. he had 7 kids, 18 grandkids. of his offspring, most of the children got up and spoke, 2 grandkids said something, and his wife spoke with such radiance and joy we were all overwhelmed
