Mon Sep 20 2004 - Rain!!
Rain!!
I mentioned to someone that a bit of rain would be nice. And rain we got today. But not exactly what I was wishing for.

I just saw the news, and we got 1.98 inches of rain, with hail--lots of it--thunder and lightning. Some of the freeway ramps were flooded, and many of the residential streets were flooded. The TV news showed residents trying to clear out street gutters and drains so the flood waters would drain. One resident complained that "we pay for street cleanup..." and still the streets are littered. Now that trees are shedding their leaves, I think the gutters will probably be pretty littered from now on.

This was Banshee's first storm, and it was amusing to watch him at his place in the front window. The thunder bothered him a bit, but after the first few rumbles, we was again at his post at the front window. He would look over at me as if to say "What's going on? What's it all about?"

Actually it was a nice rain here. Came down pretty hard for awhile, but then it gentled down. I stood on my patio for awhile and watched the rain and smelled the wonderful clean air.

This is our first rain of the season, and I think we're probably quite a bit above the "normal" rainfall for the year at this point. Our rainy season doesn't usually start this early, so maybe this was just a rogue storm.

Anyway, the air smells nice, and I'm not sneezing now.

Shalom

Ohhhh, how I love the rain! I'm glad your sneezes are gone. How fun to watch Banshee enjoying the storm.

Oh, I'm soooooo jealous!!! We didn't get a drop! We did get some virga, but that just makes me uneasy. Who wants rain that evaporates before it hits the ground? Ok, the rice farmers do right now, and the almond farmers... ok, farmers in general.

BTW, up here where the almond farmers live almond is pronounced totally differently than in the rest of the world. Short A as in *and* followed by *mend.* *A-mend* They say when they harvest them they shake the L out of them. Kind of like the word salmon.

Love,

Yes the sweet smell and sound of a good rain after a long summer dry spell.
We had a few drops here in the mountains but it was 32 this morning. I bet the garden is gone as we didn't cover it so big clean up is in store.

I am trying to imagine that smell of clean air you described. A little bit difficult when daily humidity is normally above 60%. Here the rain season is - every season. Well, at least watering the garden never seems to be a worry ;-)

Rain ... yes indeed, it has been pouring down rain here for 3 days.
I love it. And we need the rain.. Since it has been dry the past several winters.. The weathermen are saying snow above 7,000 feet, which means the Mts. just up the road and going to get it.. Snow.. Wow it is early in the season. In fact not even autumn until mid week...
I just love it.. but am praying the sun shines on Saturday for my best friends' daughters' wedding. (is that English? doesn't look or sound right)

I would have liked to have seen Banshee's wonder at it all. I miss my little doggie.. Haven't had a cat in years.. and prefer dogs.. But, aren't pets wonderful?
Have a good week..

Send some of that rain this way, why don't you? Do feel free to keep the hail though. That we don't need.
