Before my previous entry, I was an office worker. Had many interesting jobs. Worked at the airbase in Boise during WWII. And guess where I found many of my dates?
After the kids were all in school I started working part time, then full time in Long Beach Police Department (Intelligence Section), Santa Ana PD, then finally in Westminster PD. After my husband died, I decided on a career change, so enrolled in the Psychiatric Technician program, a two-year course. Megan, 15 at the time, was the only one left at home, so I turned over household duties to her so I could be a full-time student. I also had to work to supplement my income, so I got a lot of experience in nursing homes even before I was licensed.
At a later time, I'll describe some of the training.

- From:Dreamerbooks2003 (Legacy)On:Wed Sep 07 2005During WW2 my Mom also worked as office help at the base.. She tells stories of how they would look up the background of different guys.. Find out who was single and who was married.. She said most the girls had guys overseas, but it was still fun to flirt and check out the uniforms. She was engaged to my Dad who was in Navy.. And so she didn't date any of the guys, but went to some of the base dances just to socialize.. Seems like as a country we were more together back then.. ya know?
:P - From:Dustbunny3 (Legacy)On:Thu Sep 08 2005Oh my dear you are much stronger than I. I was ask to finish a telephone switching job we were installing at the Ohio State Mental center . The installer Left, tools in place and quit. Little did I know for I said I would complete the job a two week job and boy was I ill prepared for the switch room was located in a small room that required going through three lockdowns and I had never know or had any idea of such conditions . I finished the job but marveled how the staff could cope with such people. I told my company PRES who ask me to do this that if it had a day longer I would have been a case myself. How the staff ever sleep at night I will never know for it was years before I could .
I admire that you could handle the mental part as many were harmless in a world only they knew some so scary. and others totaly restrained .
I plain could not cope with the daily things the caring staff delt with daily.
It take a special person and they could be injured in a heart beat.
- From:MissTick (Legacy)On:Thu Sep 08 2005Hi, thanks for stopping by. is that song you've mentioned, by Nat King Cole?
{Red sails in the sunset, way out on the sea}
Oh, carry my loved one home safely to me
{She sailed at the dawning, all day I've been blue}
Red sails in the sunset, I'm trusting in you
Swift wings you must borrow
Make straight for the shore
We marry tomorrow
And she goes sailing no more...
? :-)
- From:Allimom (Legacy)On:Thu Sep 08 2005I do half and half. Half of the applesauce is made unspiced for #3, and the rest I put the usual apple pie spices in. Served hot it tastes just like apple pie without the crust.
Alli - From:Welshamethyst (Legacy)On:Fri Sep 09 2005TY for the apple pie recipe. I intend to try it this weekend
