December?
Thu Dec 04 2003

Today was another un-December day. The wind was coolish, but the sun was pleasantly warm. I think it's clabberin' up for rain again, though. The whole weekend. I hate walking to shul in the rain. Not that I'll melt, or anything like that.

Oh, wow! Just think if I could stand out in the rain and melt off a few pounds. Hmph! with my luck they'd all come off where I don't need to have them come off. Oh well.

Harry and I went to see Allen again today. HE LAUGHED. This is the first time since the funeral that he has laughed. I've gotten some wan smiles out of him, but he actually laughed and had fun with us today.

Now, I have to think of what I'm going to do with my Sundays and Wednesday when Allen leaves to live back east with his son and his family. Which I think will be the end of this month. I'm sure something will occur to me.

Hanukkah is coming soon. I notice that Christmas decorations are up all over the place. Usually we have a Menorah lighting on the Capitol steps on the first night of Hanukkah, but since the first night is Friday this year I don't know how it's going to be done. The Menorah lights have to be lit before the Shabbat candles are lit, and unless the Menorah is lit in the middle of the afteroon instead of just before sunset, there won't be time for the strictly observant Jews to get home before sunset. And that includes the Rabbi.

Well, that's the Rabbi's problem to figure out. I'll just go along with whatever plans come about.

Today was a good day. Thank you.

Shalom

    Hello, my dear Chaya!
I hope they put up a huge Menorah and lots of Hanukkah decorations soon. I love cultural and religious diversity, and coming from Malaysia, am quite used to it. Since the Chinese, Hindus and Malays follow a Lunar Calendar, there are times when the Chinese New Year, Muslim Eid and Christmas all collide. What wonderful long public holidays we get then!
I'm so glad to read that Allen laughed. That is just so touching.
I hope you be very careful about walking in the rain. Those sidewalks get pretty darn slippery. I'm not worried about you melting, Chaya. I know you're too strong for that :o)
I'm not sure how many pounds are in 48 kilograms, but I'd say about 108 pounds.
    Lots of love,
    E.L.

I'm glad that Allen was in better spirits. I know it will be hard on you losing your friend when he goes back east. Hang in there!!

    Hugs,

How nice it was to read your good news about Allen laughing. That sort of thing we take for granted until it isn't happening any more.

I look forward to hearing about the lighting of the Menorah :)
A big Menorah is lit in the middle of Sydney for Hanukkah. I must watch out for it in the news.
    Love and (((hugs)))
