Gadgets and Grrrr
Sun Apr 03 2005

We have all these wonderful appliances and electronics, and we've come to utterly depend on them.

Then one of them fails us.

Oh me. Oh dear. Oh my world is falling apart.

Now this entry may or may not make it through cyberspace. I haven't figured yet whether is the computer or the ISP. I suspect the latter. And it's driving me nuts!

I'm reading but leaving no comments. Why? Because sometimes I get "This page cannot be displayed" and my comment has been obliterated. I tried three times to send a comment and finally gave up. I click on an entry, and I get the same message. Then I try again and the entry comes up, but it takes several minutes.

I tried to send a reply to an e-mail and only the first sentence made it.

So until I figure out what's wrong, I'll be reading, but don't expect to hear from me until I can get this mess figured out.

MSN Messenger still works. After I've tried logging on 2 or 3 times.

I can still play solitaire.

But anything involving communications works reluctantly.

And the mail keeps piling up, but I can't devote 12 hours at the puter working thru all the mail. And that's how long it would take (at a guess) to get through everything, at the rate it takes to bring up one items, read it, then delete it. In fact, sometimes it takes 15 to 20 mimutes just to get logged on.

OH,yeah, and sometimes when I want to delete something, I get the message that "some items cannot be deleted." Why? So I try again, and they go away.

And another thing: at the top of the page I get the message "Action canceled." But I'm looking at the thing that was supposedly cancelled.

So.

I'm wading through, but not very patiently.

Maybe my computer literate friend will get here pretty soon and get me straightened out, or maybe I'll be sending out emails will my new address.

We'll see. In the meantime, I'm still here. Just not communicating.

And I hope this gripe manages to make it through cyberspace.

Shalom

PS: Oh, so far, Yahoo still works. Try me at [email protected] if you want to talk to me.

    Hi,
    first simple things to try:
right mouse click on IE icon - properties- "delete cookies" and "Delete Files" (make sure you tick the box "delete all offline files")
    second to try:
check all windows updates, if any missing
    third to try:
if you've got any firewall, anti-virus, turn it off and try to connect to see if any of them affecting
If nothing works - post back and advice which Windows OS you using (XP professional, XP home or else) - we'll think of other things to try.
Also could be useful if you can recall when exactly this problem started and if it happenned after you downloaded something from the Internet.
Have you got any ad-ware programm installed?
    Good luck!

Have you ran a virus check and defragged your computer yet? Also on my diary today I left a website for a free download of adware blocker. If you don't have and adware.spyware blocker, you might want to get one. Those are all signs of adware bogging down your registry or a virus. Good luck!

Very frustrating! I had to go back to square one with my computer, wiping out everything and reloading the software that came with the thing. It was easier than I expected it to be, but then I had to load all the programs I have added since I got the thing. I saved all the important things on disk before I did it like my graphics. I think you might have to do the same.

Do you have a warranty on your computer? If so, then you can probably get it fixed for nothing.
